Why do you drive in the left lane?

Yes, Virginia drivers drive like grand'ma. But you know there is a reason for that right. If you lived there, you would do the same.
Driving 20mph over the speed limit or more in Virginia is considered reckless driving, which is a criminal offense rather than just a traffic infraction. They would put you in jail for that.
In MD, it is common to see people driving 55 on roads where the limit is 35. In VA, it's a criminal offense and can go to jail. That's why they all drive 20 on roads where the limit is 35 just to be safe they won't go back to jail.

It's a passing lane, not a speeding lane. It's not for you to drive 80 MPH and be reckless.

Im not under the speed limit but if I am in the left lane it is because I am passing and then I get back over on the right lane until I need to pass again.

BTW- some drivers in this area sees this as aggressive driving. It is not. I do not need to pick a lane and stay in it to make you more comfortable. I do wish you would maintain some semblance of a consistent speed though. My favorite is when someone wont let you over in the left lane so you can pass and then they hang in your pocket. And do not pass the people on the right.

This. Maybe I don't drive in Va enough, but in my experience, the reckless speeders far outnumber those driving in the left lane 10 mph under the speed limit.

That’s a reason for driving the speed limit. That’s not a good reason for driving the speed limit in the left lane.

Because I'm from Virginia?

I have diagnosed inattentive ADD and I never, ever drive like this.

They are going to say because they are going the speed limit, and do not plan on exiting. Still they are 10-15 miles below the speed of traffic.

It's a passing lane. Not a cruising lane.

Just because you aren't breaking a law doesn't mean you're a good driver.

Hanging out in the left lane IS breaking the law in many areas.

That is commonly the only option to pass. VA drivers are consistently terrible, sticking to the left lane en masse and leaving the right lane open.

Yes. Stay in the right lane. Are you trying to control the flow of traffic?

Well if someone is going 60 MPH on a road that is 35, I'm going to stay in the right lane and out of their way. I have no intention of provoking some doped up idiot with rage issues. If you want to police them by going the same speed as the car in the other lane, that's on you. My life is worth more and I'm not the police.

Additionally, you never no one someone has a legit medical emergency. If they are driving that fast, I'm getting out of their way.

This is what drives me bonkers about I-66. The passing lane ping pongs between the far left and far right lane. Reckless drivers going 15+ over the speed limit are by far the most dangerous hazards on the road, but those who decide to impede the flow of traffic by going considerably slower in the left lane aren't helping matters.

I just stay in the right lane these days. Much faster than the left.
