Why do you drive in the left lane?

Because I'm going around the world to the left.

Because I'm from Virginia?

I did a road trip all the way from Virginia beach to McLean last week and there was only one driver keeping me from going over 75mph in the left lane the entire stretch, and it was a black guy with a Maryland plate in an Audi Q5. As I finally was able to get around him I beeped at him numerous times as I passed, and he had the nerve to beep back at me and flick me off, and he just stayed in the left lane. He was blocking up traffic for like 5 miles!

This is so stupid, and the fact that you wrote it out without being embarrassed is worse. In ~4 hours driving, you had to pass a single driver on the right and it gave you road rage? Take a pill. I say that as someone who reflexively assumes that Maryland drivers are terrible.

Seriously. Maybe he flicked you off because you were driving dangerously. You were so mad you couldn't go ten miles over the speed limit that you beeped at him numerous times? There is zero safety reason for you to be honking like that, it is pure road rage.

Yes.

Because I'm turning left. Or because I'm passing a car. Otherwise I'm in the right lane.

Yes.

Absolutely not, assuming you are talking about a road like Langston Blvd. or Washington Blvd. or Walter Reed Drive. No one should be going that fast anyway. (I think those are 30 mph roads, but you get the idea)

I only drive in this lane when I am running late & need to be somewhere on time.

I typically drive 10-15 higher than the posted speed limit since I have never (yet!) sent a cop pull over anyone in the fast lane for speeding!

It’s been nice that GW parkway is one lane now, so there’s no dummies going 40 in the left lane. Of course now you have to deal with the single terrified driver going 30 and then randomly breaking.

I've seen it a handful of times, typically closer to the end of the month. It's easy kind of an easy get.

The left lane isn't for driving- it's for passing. If you're not passing, you stay in the right lane. Easy peasy.

If there’s traffic, all lanes are free game.

Man, it must be rough to have peaked in the 5th grade.

People do this because currently many people think they should do whatever they believe is right or at least okay for them and to hell with anybody else. It's a mindset that has spread far and wide. There's no going back.

I drive from FL to VA and back several times a year and it is not just cars with Virginia plates doing this, it's lots of people, from everywhere.
