Least run down/overcrowded schools in Vienna area?

Anonymous
The weird thing was when they shoveled more kids into Thoreau because they wanted to keep Jackson as an AAP center. Now Thoreau is a mess with kids going to three different high schools and Jackson has a bigger divide than ever between the AAP kids (mostly from Vienna) and the other kids (mostly from Falls Church). FCPS is just a total mess and the hypocrisy and mismanagement could not be worse.

And it has no AAP program, which is the biggest plus of all.

The anti-AAP bashers have to hop into every thread....Worked great for our kid, no complaints, and there was no "AAP versus general ed" chasm like some claim on this board.
a DC told our DC that he is too smart for the GenEd class and will be moving to AAP.

Several kids told our GE child she was "stupid" when she didn't get into AAP. That has stayed with her for years, even though she's anything but. Now in high school, she's in all the same AP classes as the former AAP kids, making straight As, yet she still thinks less of herself. FCPS has really done a number on these kids and it's shameful that they see fit to sort them at the age of seven.

NP. DC went to Louise Archer ES and frequent taunt was “base kid” from the AAP students.

This divide is a real problem.

Also interesting to note that my former Gen Ed DC attends college with several AAP students from ES and Jackson MS.

How horrible yet school board members from the Vienna/Oakton area like Meren and Keys Gamarra could not care less.

Only a parent who had a kid in AAP would say this.

Really? The parent who said AAP "worked great for [their] kid, no complaints" had a kid in AAP? Crazy.

Do you.....not know what the bolding means?

Those parents will constantly deny there is any segregation or division. So predictable.

I am an AAP parent of 2 AAP kids and I kept my kids in the local level IV school in part because I heard about the division at nearest center school. I had one parent (who sent her DS to the center) give me snark and say my kids could never get a good education outside of the center school because they would not be among smart peers. That just solidified my decision to stay local. And then you meet these fools in (a center) MS and the AAP kids all attend the same AAP classes whether they went to the center or local level IV school. And bright kids who aren't in AAP take honors-which guess what? doesn't seem all that different (is there any difference?) than the AAP classes. AAP kids commingle with (gasp!) gen ed kids in electives. So some of us AAP parents recognize the division in ES. IMO, it gets better in MS.

I haven't met people like this at all no matter the school. In fact, some of the LLIV schools are much wealthier and a bit more elitest.
No one cares that much in Vienna where you go to school private, public, AAP, gen ed. Eventually you all know each other through something.

You either have a kid in private school, a kid in AAP, or no school-aged child at all.

This thread is why I hate this whole damn area. It’s the academic/sports/travel Olympics every damn day. I’m over all of it.

DP. None of them care. They bray about "equity," but AAP is a glaring example of NON-equity. Especially when AAP kids get to choose which school to attend. GE kids get no such choice.

As soon as our youngest graduates, we are out of here. I'm a product of FCPS when it actually was an excellent school system. Those days are long over.

It depends on the school and the parents. There are plenty of places where AAP is not a focus and the parents are not really discussing it. There are probably kids at every school that brag about AAP, there was one at my kids school who was very loudly discussing moving to the Center. The kids I heard discussing him, during car pool or when over playing with my kid or at activities, were all pretty happy he was leaving because he was obnoxious.

I have heard my kids friends and my kid discussing who is in Advanced Math and who is in “AAP”, which is LIII at our school. I know that there are kids who have dropped out of Advanced Math or LIII for a variety of reasons. No one seems to care. The kids are still hanging out together.

So if you attend a school where LIV is really important then you and your kids will probably have a different experience then a kid at a school where the parents are not obsessed with LIV.

Let me guess- your kids go to Wolftrap. It’s a IV, the neighborhoods are a mix of private and public and the majority are heavily sports involved. I get it. We went through there too. Once they become older you will see the rest of the world and even the rest of Vienna isn’t like this.

100% FCPS is all about equity except for smart kids kids whose parents can afford tutoring, then you're SPECIAL

Now imagine the kid you described many times over. That's who makes up AAP classes at center schools and that is why Gen Ed kids should not have to deal with them.

Right. We literally had our agent pull all of the houses zoned to a particular elementary school out of our MLS search to avoid the AAP Center bullshit and kids like this.

I wonder if any of the Vienna parents who have such an animus towards AAP centers like Louise Archer are the same Madison parents who then turn around and say condescending things about Marshall.
