Least run down/overcrowded schools in Vienna area?

lol! Classic DCUM. A post about school facilities has devolved into another AAP sh$tshow. Love it.

The elites in Vienna aren't attending any of these schools. Once I asked my neighbor what she thought about our local public schools, and she said she had no idea. She had never considered public schools and only ever considered private. I've met many families since then just like her.

Very few "elites" live in Vienna. Sending your kid to OLGC or Flint Hill doesn't make you elite.

When AAP actually IS a sh!tshow, there's no tiptoeing around it.

Get out of your bubble. To most of the US and as a governmental classification of income earned, the majority of Vienna families are elites even if they send their kids to Madison or O’Connell.

And it has no AAP program, which is the biggest plus of all.

The anti-AAP bashers have to hop into every thread....Worked great for our kid, no complaints, and there was no "AAP versus general ed" chasm like some claim on this board.
a DC told our DC that he is too smart for the GenEd class and will be moving to AAP.

Several kids told our GE child she was "stupid" when she didn't get into AAP. That has stayed with her for years, even though she's anything but. Now in high school, she's in all the same AP classes as the former AAP kids, making straight As, yet she still thinks less of herself. FCPS has really done a number on these kids and it's shameful that they see fit to sort them at the age of seven.

NP. DC went to Louise Archer ES and frequent taunt was “base kid” from the AAP students.

This divide is a real problem.

Some of the “base kid” parents were so mean to their base school teacher that she up and left Archer mid year despite that class having much smaller teacher student ratios. It was appalling and racist of them although only a handful of parents that caused the issue. There are advantages like teacher student ratio and more specialist support from the reading and math teacher plus aap pullouts that “base kids” get with the system that aap kids don’t. The parents seemed to have had no problem taunting others themselves so perhaps both kids in these scenarios taunt about something. Most schools in the US switch for math and reading and do advanced pull outs. Arlington has GT starting in kindergarten whereas Fairfax waits till 3rd grade. Travel sports are the norm in Vienna starting at young ages. There are hierarchies everywhere and they aren’t always the same kids.

Archer is also one of the more diverse schools economically and racially in Vienna.

We are Wolftrap zoned. Like many who can in our area, we have moved our children to private. Wolftrap was very bad. Safe but glorified babysitting.

The only folks we knew who ever pulled their kids out of Wolftrap were parents who wanted their kids in LLIV and were turned down.

That must have been a long time ago. We are a different family and know lots that left in the past few years. It wasn’t because of AAP. Things changed during and after covid. I don’t think wolftrap was bad but now that my kids are older I see it was weak academically. It had a strong PTA and a lot of activities for the kids. We didn’t have an issue with Wolftrap but switched to private later.

Are you 12? Most Vienna parents do not talk like this or would even talk to someone who talked like this.
AAP is not all that. It's a short program that mainly affects 3rd -6th grade. Before then there are just pull outs.
Advanced instruction is helpful for some students. It can be taught many different ways.
By middle school and high school it's mainly done by subject class.

Most parents I know show respect for the school, the programs offered including AAP, students enrolled, teachers, and other parents. And then there are a tiny few, who have nothing to do with AAP, but are obsessed to disparage it, but only until their kid gets enrolled in it.
