Facials are a waste of money

Yes but you can do those facials at home, a spa visit is not necessary.

You feel “scammed” when you voluntarily bought a PACKAGE of a service you had never tried before? You were not scammed, you are stupid. You should have tried the service at least once before you bought a package.

As an Esthetician, I see my cleans once a month (sometimes two if we are doing a series of treatments, not facials)
You see yourself everyday. I am here to educate you while also providing a luxurious facial. With the products I recommend for at home use is where all the work goes down for real. If you are not consistently taking care of your skin, you cannot blame the service provider. Same way with working out with a personal trainer a few times a month, you can’t just rely on them to get you to your body goal, you need to do the work for yourself IN ADDITION to what your service provider is teaching you.

You come in for a facial to get your skin checked up on, same with your doctor or dentist. Making sure everything is going according to plan and in good standing, while also enjoying some well needed “me time” and relaxation.

Don’t blame your Esthi for the things you aren’t doing at home.

Good post. I just splurged on a facial at a local spa before my vacation and it was stupid. The girl was rubbing my face vigorously; it hurt. No improvement in my skin's appearance. Won't do it again.

My ex was a Harvard med, Mass General trained dermatologist. When I asked him what facials can actually do he said “They feel nice.”

I am not clear on what you are saying the value of a facial is besides relaxation?
To educate the client on how or what to use?

I agree that the cheap facials where they just move around some cream and put cucumbers on your eyes do nothing.

What works is the more expensive stuff like periodic botox, microneedling, lasers or peels, plus tretinoin, moisturizer and sunscreen at home.

Funny. My mother is a dermatologist as well and said the same thing. She has beautiful skin. Doesn’t do any of the expensive creams or potions. Really main reason she has great skin is bc she doesn’t stay out in the sun. She never has. She puts on sunscreen every day. And she wears long sleeves when out out in the sun.

Um, dermatologists make bank pushing snake oil products and Botox on everyone — and surgical help.

Agreed. They want to Botox everyone. My derm also has two estheticians in her office. They recently added laser treatments too. It’s like she’s adding more services to push in everyone, to make more money.

I will say I did get the best results when a derm prescribed accutane (didn’t last forever for me) and another derm prescribed spirolactonane.

Agree. I get facials once every 6 months. I consider it like going to the dentist to get my teeth cleaned but for my face. If I had a big event to attend, I may consider getting a facial a few days before the event. But I would not get a facial every month.
