Facials are a waste of money

Anonymous
I dealt with a lot of acne last summer and stupidly thought facials may help. I found a nearby place with good reviews. It was $1000 for 14 facials as a subscription service, it's normally $140 there without one. They also do botox and other kinds of facials. I figured if it didn't clear up my skin, maybe they will help me prevent wrinkles and texture. I was very consistent with going every month but only noticed my skin would look great a week after getting my facial, and it only lasted a few days. It could have been related to my cycle. Life happened this spring and I didn't get to go for 3 months. There was NO difference in my skin tone with it getting better or worse. I found a face wash that cleared up all of the acne for $15 at CVS. Got a prescription from the derm for tretinoin, use a great moisturizer and SPF 2-3 times a day. My skin has never looked better from these few steps. Every time I leave my facial I feel scammed. I can't wait until I am done wasting an hour+ going there plus leaving a $30 tip. Every esthetician who works there is full of botox and it feels like I'm being deceived.

Fwiw, I agree with you, OP.

I 100% agree with you OP it's a total waste of money.

I do think that what you do every day matters far more than what you do once a month. And also, that all skin treatments aren't equal. Many facials are little more than washing your face.

My dermatologist told me most facials do more harm than good.

+1 Mine said the same thing!

Regular facials, yes. Laser facials, no.

What face wash do you use?

I go to Mean Christine in NY once a quarter and think it makes a big difference, but agree for any pampering type facial they don't do much.

I agree. When I lived in San Francisco in the early 2000s, my insurance included free medical facials if you saw a Derm for acne and they were prescribed. Wasn't even helpful then in clearing acne. I guess they were relaxing, but that's about it.

This one. But if it didn’t work I’d try cerave salicylic acid. It made a huge difference in two or three days. How sad that I threw over$1200 over a year at this issue that was fixed in a few days.

Op here. Mine are never relaxing. The woman talks sooo much. It’s like at the dentist when they ask you questions and your mouth is wide open already.

I love my facials! I forgot what it’s called but I especially like when I have all the peach fuzz removed. I haven’t gotten to the point where I would get injections
