99.99% of cosmetic services are for naught, OP. It's purely psychological. If some people "feel better" after putting on certain creams (it's got a nice texture, smells nice, etc) or getting certain non-surgical procedures... it's never a lasting benefit. The only product that has been proven to work over the long-term is retinol and its derivatives, for fine lines and signs of aging. However, a lot of people can't tolerate it at the efficient concentrations, and it also makes the skin more prone to sun damage, so you've got to add sunscreen or avoid the sun. |

I disagree, partially. If you're going to a highly skilled, very experienced esthetician, then facials can make a big difference. Someone who really knows what they're doing (not just delivering one size fits all treatments) can truly help balance your skin and stop problems before they start. But these people are rare and they're unlikely to be working for an hourly wage at a "spa." They're definitely not going to be at the places selling subscriptions.
Two of my friends have exceptional facialists (both in "private practice") and I can absolutely tell when they've just had a facial. One pays I think $350 and other closer to $500, but I'd say they're getting much more bang for buck than someone going to Glo30/ Silver Mirror/ EverBody/ Take Care/ etc. |
You can do that at home for $3 a razor. |
Hydro boost by neutrogena. |
What kind of facials? The lasers, etc definitely make a difference. |
| I only do facials when I have an event or something coming up. They do make my face feel softer, and hydrated. Or when I want to relax. |
| It’s a money grab |
| I'm also anti-facial. I'm very pro-laser. It's painful but gives results. |
| I've done the subscription facials and feel the same. I think part of the problem is how many facialists use pore clogging ingredients. Now that I'm mid-30s I only find laser worth my time and money. |
| Facials by salons are just feel good pampering. You are better off buying AHA/BHA exfoliation pads. |
| DH gives me a facial every night. |
| I agree OP. For acne most facials are a waste of money. A visit to a dermatologist is much more worthwhile. Micro needling RF, also at a dermatologist, works wonders for acne scars and chemical peels are good as well. I’m on Tretinoin as well and winlevi. Spirolactone is excellent as well but I started getting a reaction to it and stopped using it. |
| Spironalactone. If you don't plan on becoming pregnant anytime soon. Miracle drug for me (53) but also for my daugher (20) |
| If a person needs lots of extractions, isn’t a facial the only way to get all of it out? |
