I get what you're saying, but these posts crack me up when it comes after 3-4 posters have recommended Frederick. You can get a BEAUTIFUL house for 1 million, within a 10-15 minute drive to Frederick and experience restaurants, theater, art, music, etc. I hesitate to even post this because its such a gem of a small city. We've lived here for a few years now and since moving up here have not felt a need AT ALL to head into DC or its immediate surrounding area for any "culture" |
Seriously? I'm renting in DC and now that my kids are in college, I'm itching to move out of the city and into a little cottage somewhere close enough to DC so I can come in once a week or so for work, but far enough so I can have a little space. I can't afford DC prices so I am looking at AA county, but there is no way I can live in a county where they are going down the path of codifying intolerance and bigotry. UGH |

Property taxes in Baltimore City are astronomical. |
Severna Park poster here. I think the tide is slowly changing but it is definitely not as liberal as MoCo. We cannot afford MoCo or to continue to stay in DC, like even close, so this was our best option for schools and proximity to DC. We’ve found it takes a bit more effort to find more like minded folks but it isn’t a completely lost cause. |
There will always be extremists who want to ban these things. Doesn't mean it's common thought. |

https://smartasset.com/taxes/maryland-property-tax-calculator#: The houses in Frederick cost less, but you pay more in real estate taxes. "Overall, Frederick County has the one of the highest property tax rates of any county in Maryland. The county’s average effective tax rate is 1.18%. In some cities, the total rate will be much higher than that. For example, in the city of Frederick, the total listed rate is $1.060 per $100 of assessed value." I know, because my family members live in a rural area of VA and pay much higher property taxes than we do in Montgomery County MD. People here just like to complain. |
| I live in Frederick and don’t know a single person who goes to church. And they vote democrat even if there are far better candidates (to the point of being ridiculous at times). Not sure what decade you are looking at. |
AA Co Board voted against the pride flag ban 6-2. |
Doesn't really matter either way if the taxes on Frederick are higher than MoCo. It doesn't look like OP or most pps on this board have done some basic internet research on real estate tax rates. |
True, but that's a difference of less than 2k per year in property tax on a 1 million dollar property But that would be offset by the savings in local income tax (https://www.marylandtaxes.gov/individual/income/tax-info/tax-rates.php), which is 8 percent higher in MoCo (.0320 vs .0296) I know my take home pay increased when I moved from MoCo to FredCo. Probably need around 250k in HHI to offset the property tax increase on a 1 million dollar home |
I’m this “culture” poster and I agree that Frederick is great, and might be a good option for the OP. |
Literally yes. |
