My cc statement doesn’t land at my mailbox for a few weeks. My cc will only say I paid $48.06 at Target. How will Target know the item I am returning was purchased from them? |
I don't know but they do. Everywhere. Macys, Costco etc.. You say "I don't have my receipt but I used this card" and they put it in and then refund the money to your credit card. Literally everywhere! I hate receipts with the fire of a thousand suns. |
I read somewhere reputable that the chemicals can also make you fat. Have no idea if that's true. |
These days there are many people who get receipts forwarded to their email when they use their CCs. And it's a huge waste of paper and ink. So, now, the default is not to print or to ask you if you want a printed copy. For those of us who get electronic receipts predominantly, if you go to Target to return something, they can scan your credit card and the computer can bring up a list of charges to that card. They often will look at the most recent receipt and will check that one for the item. If you know that it is not the most recent, then you can tell them that and they may ask for an approximate time to check for receipts and they will look for the receipt and item. But this is also good for businesses like Target so that they can see if the item is really within the return period. They have many people who bring receipts with the date smudged out and they issue returns for items that are past the return date. The electronic receipts don't get the date wrong for whether it is within the return period or not. |
| I need a receipt. Not taking a receipt is saving them money and just another way to get over on you. I don't need to be in a situation were I'm don't have a receipt leaving a store with an item, no thanks, also if there is an issue with the item or a warranty you need to receipt. Not all the store can look up by credit card. It makes sense to always get a receipt. |
| Op, why not pay with the check also. |
| I need a receipt. Several times I found there were errors in the pricing of one of the several items I buy and only discovered after I came home due to being in a hurry. Only way I can prove my charge was wrong is to show the receipt. I have way too many junks and messages in my email inbox that I find it more likely to miss the erroneous charge, if I use email receipt. I have a paper shredder that I use regularly. |
That's just not true at all!!! Most places except target need a receipt. After reading this thread you would think all of you only shop at target.

I don’t get them for gas, target, or donuts.
But I do like a grocery store receipts so I can show my husband what I bought and put away. Makes it easier for him to know what he can use to make dinner. |
Well, these days, you are the minority, which is why you should ask for a receipt. Since the majority don't want one, don't want to waste paper and resources and don't want to have to shred the receipts to get rid of them (many people don't own a shredder), then the default should be no receipt, but one is available upon request. So you can request a receipt and get one. |
No, but I get an electronic receipt automatically from anywhere that uses Square (so tons of restaurants). I get electronic receipts from Lowes and Home Depot and department stores, CVS, and the majority of businesses. If I have a problem that I need a receipt, I can put the business name in the search box for mail and have the receipt right there on my phone. And I don't have the carry the piece of paper around to get my return credit. |
We have the policy in our house is whoever shops, the other one puts the groceries away. That way we both usually know what is in the house. |
First PP here. I save the receipts in a small canister in my kitchen. On the last day of each month, I pull them out and track them via excel broken down by categories (food, clothing gas, medical etc). I understand there are simpler ways to track expenses before someone chimes in. However, there is something about going through my tracking/reconciling process that keeps me mindful of my spending. |
| I need receipts from fast food places for meal expenses for my business. It’s very important I get a receipt. It can be for various reasons people need a receipt. I had to redeem a coffee the other day because it was bad. Wouldn’t have been able to redeem if I hadn’t had receipt. |
| Omg if I had to go thru receipts after shopping to check for pricing errors or returned literal coffee I think I would just call it quits on life. What a way to live! |
