Why don’t places automatically give receipts anymore?

My cc will only say I paid $48.06 at Target. How will Target know the item I am returning was purchased from them?

Target sends me a congratulatory email telling me exactly what I purchased in-store and how I paid for it before I even make it to the store exit. There is a barcode for returns in the email. All of my online and instore purchases are in my account.

Someone needs to invent an app where I can tap and the receipt goes straight to the app. I don’t want businesses emailing it to me or having my email address.

Your credit card only gives the total purchase. You need a receipt to return.
