Why don’t places automatically give receipts anymore?

If you just bought it, they could pull up the purchase.

If you have an account, Lululemon has you in your system and a receipt of all your purchases.

If you pay with a card, they can swipe your card and see what you bought .

You don’t need a receipt.

+1 and I’m and old lady. It is so wasteful. They should just have the receipts just print into the trash can.

I tell my kids and DH to always get a receipt, but it’s falling on deaf ears.

Your kids and husband aren't going to participate in your meaningless nonsense, good for them.

If you return the item, you need the receipt.

Only in very specific scenarios.

You being the one out of 50 customers that wants a receipt doesn't make it worth it.

Several places I go ask if I want a receipt and when I say no it still prints, then they throw it out. They should really reprogram their registers to not print the receipt automatically (like gas pumps!) if it is costing that much money.

Whenever I use my credit card, I always want my receipt, especially if it's a large purchase. Also, the Walmart I use has someone check the receipts at the exit doors.

Walmart always gives a receipt and you can always ask for a receipt when you use your credit card. This isn’t hard.

Personally I never want receipts. I just have to find a trashcan to throw them away. And in the off chance I would need to prove I paid for something because a clerk forgot to take the sensor off, I’d just open my credit card app.

I get all receipts electronically now. Much better for me than trying to keep track of pieces of paper.

Not really anymore for a lot of places.

My 90 year old grandmother asked this question a few weeks ago.

All stores don’t offer electronic receipts. If I return to Walmart, Target like stores, I need a receipt to get $$ returned via cash or my cc (whatever method I used). Without either, you will get a gift card and if it is on sale when you return, you receive the sale price.

I also check my credit card statement each month for purchases and returns.

I was just going to say I have mine emailed to me. Then if I need a printed copy I can just print it

That’s not true. You can a refund to a credit card that you used for the purchase in the amount of the purchase within the specified return period without a receipt at both Target and Walmart.

I'm the same. I generally keep my receipts until after I've gone online and checked my credit card purchases.

I have a small business that almost exclusively takes payments via credit cards. I have fewer than 10 cash transactions a year. We don’t even have a receipt printer now. People can choose to get their receipt by text, email, or no receipt. I’ve had 2 people grumble (complain feels like too strong a word) that there was no paper option, but most people seem to accept or prefer it this way.

I don’t want to mess with receipts. I don’t want a printer for them (I don’t have a cash register, just an iPad and CC reader so I’d need another piece of equipment cluttering my desk), I don’t want the supplies taking up space, and I don’t want to deal with picking up the trash that comes of it. They’re not recyclable. It’s wasteful. There are better alternatives to printed receipts. I’m trying to reduce plastic use, not guarantee every shopper gets more plastic.

Why can’t you just reconcile your CC statements with your electronic receipt that was emailed to you? You obviously have internet access? What are you doing with the receipts after you make sure everything was correct?
