Young men his age drink beer! Absolutely ridiculous to send a cocktail shaker fancy or plain!

Beer, sure, but do you see those fancy cocktails (and cool ice) that people order/make/post?

I think this is a great combo of practical and high-end practical.

Ridiculous. I would give him a cookbook for dummies, a good skillet, soup pot for boiling spaghetti, single cup coffee maker (not a Keurig), two plates, two cups. Two sets of good stainless flatware with serving pieces.

No one wants a cookbook anymore as you can get recipes online. No one wants just two plates and two cups and two flatware.

I bought DS an easy to use/one step fire extinguisher for his off campus apartment. Bought another one for myself.

My vote: fire extinguisher + Home Depot or Lowe’s gift card.

Practical gifts - small step ladder, tool box, drill, bunch of batteries including those special smoke alarm ones, flashlight, charging hub, surge protectors
Entertaining gifts - set of martini glasses and shaker, pizza stone, corn hole, platters, other barware/stemware, wine opener, decanter
Homey gifts - welcome mat, artwork, coffee table book, catchall tray for keys etc, real or fake plant, throw blankets

You had 20 extra place settings? How many did you own?

NP- I could give away 40 and still have 20+ leftover. We inherited 3 sets of china from grandmothers, one has an 18 service and another has 24, I think the third has 20, plus we have normal dishes that I bought when I got my first apartment before the deluge of china…

But also, Lowe’s or Home Depot gift card, though if he’s in upper NW Ace might be more practical if he wants to buy something in person.

A chain saw. Good for scaring away unwanted door-to-door solicitors, process servers, and other unwanted intruders.

The beauty is that you never even have to open your door. The sound is enough.

That’s so depressing.

Not as depressing as a single cup and one place setting.

Most useful things as a new condo owner

Drill and basic bits (drill, Phillipshead) - helps for hanging things that need to be anchored and for putting together any furniture he might get
Smal Fire extinguisher is a great suggestion (something I def didn’t have as a new condo owner and you should have)
Non-cheesy neutral welcome mat if he’s not the kind of person who would want to pick out his own
Home Depot or Ace Hardware gift card - he will use it (get the one for whichever is most convenient to get to from his place)
