Anyone else finding this really ... boring?
I loved these books. My recollection was that they were really well done as far as characters and pacing. The show drags. and I don't really find any of the characters compelling. I like Rebecca Ferguson, but not as Juliet. Everyone else seems to have been given the direction to pretend they are a tub of dishwater and act like it. |
I fell asleep watching the first episode. DH agreed that it was slow. We had finished up “Day of the Jackal” the night before, which kept us glued to the screen for a week. We watch every sci-fi series with good ratings and this one is off to a boring start. |
The show was definitely slower than the books and some of the changes weren’t good but I still liked seeing the book come to life in a place that you could never see in real life. Just the notion of the silo was fascinating to me when I was reading it so to be able to see it I thought was fun. That’s why I enjoyed it, not because it was particularly gripping TV. |
The worst of all is Common. Just a *horrible* actor. |
Liked the first season, but I’m finding the second slow-going, especially the first episode. I think it’s because I don’t find Juliette particularly compelling as a portrayed here. From the books I pictured her as a little scrappier and more engaging? She’s just so dour. |
Yes, so slow going! I'm having a hard time finishing the second episode. Ugh, I've been looking forward to season 2 but don't think I'll continue to watch |
I find a lot of the streaming shows slow but generally pretty good, especially those from England (or Europe). They seem to be more interested in the storyline than action. I think Americans are just used to Marvel. |
I liked the last couple of episodes and I’m curious how it will turn out as a non-book reader. I do agree that some of the actors are meh. |
It’s so visually dark. That’s my big complaint. I read the books after the first season, so now there’s not much suspense. |
I wish they would give Solo's back story like they did in the book. I feel like the book did such a good job at introducing characters and getting you to care about them. I have been so disappointed with the show. |
Question: the people of the Silo have been told that the air outside is toxic and will kill you. This is the truth. So why do we keep hearing them accusing leadership of “lying” to them? All of those people in Silo 17 died when exposed to the air. The only reason Juliette was able to make it over the hill is because her suit was sealed with the “good” heat tape. She still had to seek shelter in Silo 18 or she would have died from the toxic air once her oxygen ran out.
I really don’t understand this plot point. What’s the “lie” here? |
They lie it about knowing why they are there and purposefully hiding their history. Anyone who has any knowledge is sent to clean or put to death another way. They are meant to believe that gods created the silo not men . They lie to the cleaners - with the screens in the mask to make themselves think it is good outside. They are also lying about trying to build suits to keep the cleaners alive as long as possible. The suits are designed to fail so no one knows there are other silos (another lie - maybe the biggest one - that thier silo alone is the world). They are all being spied on, so they are being misled about privacy. And the leaders of the silo decide who will not have children by not removing their birth control. They do not want people who ask questions to have kids. So couples are lied to about thier ability to have children. There are more lies, but I do not think the show is close to showing that (if they will at all). |
The show is such a slog. Trying to get through it because the books are so great. |
I have to agree. Loved the book, though I only read the first one. The dialogue and acting is so cringy. |
I finally got around to watching Silo's second season. I read these posts beforehand and assumed that it would be "a slog" as one PP said. I ended up binging it over the course of two days and enjoyed every moment of it 🤷♂️ |
