| Is it St John’s baseball? |
Sounds like baseball or softball given the time of year |
I know a girl who barley played for her high school basketball team because the coach just didn't like her. She did play and shine on an AAU team that played in really big exposure tournaments though. No one on her high school team would have even made the bench for her club team, but the coach had favorites. That being said, I don't see how a kid who doesn't get playing time in school or club ever catches a coach's eye and gets recruited unless they are really impressive in a camp |
So, wait. You EXPECT that he won't play much next year? But you don't know that for sure. Do you have any film from this year? I agree with others that you should find a good camp to get some eyeballs on him and to get some film. Good luck! |
+1 some program like SJC with the club and hs teams linked. OP, either switch schools or quit both teams and play for an unrelated club team. |
| Junior college. |
So you (think) you know the reason for lack of playing time, but don't want to tell recruiters (or DCUM), and would like DCUM to help you to come up with a lie to explain the lack of PT without knowing anything about the situation? Good luck with that. |

My son did not get playing time for HS or club for various reasons.
The few times he was in he created a video. He luckily went to 1 event where the top player could not play and he did get some visibility. He spent every week reaching out to his top 5 colleges. Talking to coaches, etc. He agreed to go to a boarding school for a PG year but at the last minute… literally the last day of senior year for applications for athletes he got an offer to be a preferred walk on. We believed he was not getting playing time for reasons other than ability or attitude and went for it. He went D1, started freshman year, got a scholarship and was an all American. You have to believe in yourself and not let others hold you back. |
| My nephew was recruited by a top 10 team to play in his sport, but the same year he signed a letter of intent he didn't start for his HS team. Covid had created a backlog, and there were kids who'd lost out the previous year that the coach felt obligated to play. He was a star on his club team though (which, as is typical, was a much higher level than HS), and used film from that. Not sure, OP, how to overcome the lack of film from any level. |

OP what is the reason- in your words? If you could just tell us that would be helpful.
Sounds like baseball to me? Someone else parked in his best defensive position? Coach’s kid issue? Why can’t he play for a different club at least? Even for summer? It is hard to advise without more info. |

My kid went D1 and had offers to choose from and not a single kid on his high school team got an offer and 1 one on his Club. HS wanted to put him on JV because they wouldn’t cut seniors (no matter how bad) and the club coach was truly an idiot who put in the daddy ball kids/favs. Around that time the team started falling apart and losing yet he kept giving those kids all the minutes. Those dads were at every practice high school and club and literally would have wiped the coach’s @ss if he asked. College recruiters don’t play that game. In fact, it was detrimental to their sons. |
Your kid got really lucky. College coaches tend to not care about warm up lines when they are watching tournaments. In general, if a kid wants to play in college, they need to play on a club team that will give them minutes either in front of coaches or that they can tape and send to coaches |
It doesn’t change the fact that this kid’s HS/club coaches were wrong. It’s very common. It’s why kids need to switch teams, really research the coach. |
Move clubs. See if you can playing time at another club this year. |
