It’s not any worse than FB. Or DCUM.

It’s way worse than FB and DCUM.

Agree completely.

Jeff has not, to my knowledge, designed and implemented a predatory algorithm to trigger dopamine releases, and induce a dependency (addiction) in the brains of DCUM users.

TikTok has.

Do your research. TikTok is especially toxic and divisive.

Does Jeff read this question or only the feedback ones,

if he does
Jeff how hard is it to do the same algorthm TIKTOK does? I thought Facebook was freaky when they heard what I was saying, but Tiktok its something else.

I searched for a Rolling Stones song on YouTube and the ad that popped up before the video was for ... drum roll... Metamucil. Google, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok all the same. (but not DCUM Thank heavens!

Sleep away camps and these programs are so toxic. Bullying, exclusion, sex, bribes, etc... The things I heard and saw and how little get reported back to home is MIND BLOWING

I used to think Trumpies were the most ignorant uneducated people in the country but those following along with Congress on fearing Tik Tok are by far the most embarrassing.

Ask yourself why our government wants to only ban Tik tok and not any other social media platform.

More than 5 years ago, the entire US military banned TikTok, as it is a recognized threat.

- people seriously still give it to their children??? WTF ?!?

The more children using it, the better. Makes it harder for China to separate the signal from the noise.

+1

Meta spending 22mil on paying off politicians. When Tik tok took over FB, that is when it became a problem. Can’t beat them? Try and instill fear and get rid of them. The fact that the CEO of Tik Tok is a former employee of Mark’s at FB makes it even funnier. Guy is so mad.

This and a couple of other reasons. The fear that ByteDance is sharing US information with the Chinese government. The concern that while the Chinese gov't strictly controls how minors consume TikTok in China, it's largely unregulated here. The fact that tween/teen depression has skyrocketed with the rise of SM, as has been discussed at length in other DCUM threads.

I'm not A TikTok hater by means. It's entertainment and people can be creative and I like that. My tween/teen aren't "on" TikTok but they can watch it a bit on Youtube (which is ironically blocked in China). They also watch Youtube shorts so same/same.

All this. TikTok is hastening the moronization of our youth. Not the only factor, but certainly the biggest factor directly related to an adversarial world superpower.

Then if SM is so bad for teens why not get rid of Snap, IG, FB, Twitter, etc… why the focus on just Tik Tok? All the others have had severe data links, live killings, live assaults, deaths by challenges, etc… But nothing happens.

Because the US government wants control and make money off of it and they can’t. If you actually think they care about your kids by having these hearings, that is pretty sad. Do a slightly deeper dive sweetie.

DP. I don’t think they care about my kids at all. I’d love it if every single one of those apps also went away. My kids aren’t allowed on them, but they’ve absolutely degraded society to such an extent, that I’d love to see them disappear. I know that’s not going to happen, though, so I’ll take what I can get.

There's been quite a bit of discussion about SM in general. Several states have put forth their own legislation. There have been long-standing concerns over TikTok specifically as well, that go back for several years for security reasons. Both things are true at the same time.

I don't know what you mean by "make money off of it." TikTok US does pay a lot in taxes to the US government.

TikTok collects data unrelated to the use of the app and feeds it to the Chinese government. I don’t know why that doesn’t bother you.
