Virginia Republicans ban TikTok and

While not exactly the very latest, this news is news to me:

https://www.wric.com/news/politics/capitol-connection/virginia-senate-passes-tiktok-ban-on-government-devices-with-tie-breaking-vote/amp/

Along mostly partisan lines, the Republicans relied on the tie breaking vote of republican lieutenant governor Winsome Sears, a woman of color.

Why do democrats want TikTok to remain on government issued devices in Virginia?

The vote here should have been unanimous.

The last time Republicans got all xenophobic about China, Michigan ended up with a new factory and a shit ton of jobs. So my guess is that since Democrats are better stewards of Virginia’s economy, their vote against this stupid legislation was intended to send a signal about it being a waste of time and a solution in search of a problem. Because I mean, really, how many employees were keeping TikTok on state-issued devices to begin with? I’m guessing next to none.

Fine by me. In case you haven't noticed, China is not our friend. I support it even if there's no substance but only in gesture.

As we speak, China is meeting Russia to provide more war aid against Ukraine. Giving the Rusians micro chips, chemicals that can be made into ammunitions and cash in exchange for Russian gas.

I hate that I agreed with Trump on this. TT does not have a place on government devices.

This applies to government networks which means it's effectively banned at Virginia colleges and universities. Seems like censorship to me

For universities, can they use TT on their personal devices and upload/stream via thier own cellular providers?

Wow, you are a glass is half empty person. Can't the user simply use their own mobile signal to access Tik Tok if they desire?

You do know that colleges block a great deal of content, right?

We should ban TT completely.

Considering how influential TikTok is in college application choices, that's really prudent. I guess they'll use it on their own personal devices.

But the irony, considering all the things China bans in their territories lol

I’m another hardcore Democrat coming around to this, too. I think it was the only thing I agreed with Trump about.

Right. Next to none, except those who's jobs almost require it.

It's fine for them to ban TikTok, I don't use it because it probably is Chinese spyware ultimately, but Virginia republicans seem to be on some sort of anti china PR bender for votes that doesn't help the state. Hope Wisconsin enjoys their jobs.

I don’t care if the Chinese spy on me — they will be pretty bored.
