8th grader daughter freak out over TikTok

Some of you are total drama queens. Not every kid uses TikTok. My kids don't have it on their phones. They'll watch it with friends, but not on their own. They also aren't allowed to have their phones in their rooms and they don't complain about it. Not every kid is addicted to their phones. Some of them are actually surprisingly good at knowing how to set their own limits. Let's give kids some credit.

It’s not any worse than FB. Or DCUM.

DP. This place is horrible too, but it’s not pushing content to me based on algorithms. I choose what garbage I consume here. The others are way worse, especially for kids.

It's called summer camp. The only social media there is a pen and paper that you pack. (We send cute personalized stationary). Plus, as the other poster stated have reasonable boundaries at home... duh

Agree completely.

Jeff has not, to my knowledge, designed and implemented a predatory algorithm to trigger dopamine releases, and induce a dependency (addiction) in the brains of DCUM users.

TikTok has.

Do your research. TikTok is especially toxic and divisive.

Well, I am not sure if this ever happened, but kids do freak out when they have to put their phones away.....

A few weeks ago a student forget their phone at home and they were having withdraws...

Every social media, even FB has algorithms. It’s really no big deal. Your kid’s FYP is what they search and stick with.

All these delusional parents thinking their FB page is FAR superior to a kids' TikTok page and FB doesn't use algorithms. Bwahahaha. Even google uses Algorithms.

And y'all rot your brains on here for way more time than my kid spends watching puppies and babies on TikTok. I'm not saying its good, but you are not doing any better.

Yes but this is not the problem discussed here.
The problem here is the parents (and kids) with bad judgment who DO have this miserable app on their phones (seriously, how stupid do you have to be?)

TikTok has a lot more content beyond puppies and babies. If you think that’s all your kids are seeing, you are incredibly naive.

I wholeheartedly disagree. In fact, I think it’s a huge deal causing a lot of problems way beyond adolescence. But if you feel better in echo chambers, then carry on.

Why are people saying IG is worse than Tik Tok?
