College Park mayor resigns

Anonymous
I recently had a work experience where I found out that an opposing counsel (who I did not like but who was very highly compensated and well respected by the people he worked with) was arrested for similar offenses (although I think his actually involved producing it, with children lured to his home).
It is just horrifying to me that these men live among us, like wolves in sheeps clothing. 30 years ago if you had asked me, I would have said this is a very rare disorder. But after story after story like this comes out, it just doesn't seem that rare. It's not like lightening strikes. Clearly #notallmen -- but a much higher percentage of men than I'm comfortable with have really disturbing attractions. I feel bad for his wife, who likely had no idea.

It’s a good lede from the Post. Is there any better example of “virtue signaling” than this?

“College Park Mayor Patrick Wojahn, a long-serving public official and advocate for environmental and social justice issues in his Maryland city, was arrested Thursday morning and has been charged with 56 counts of possession and distribution of child pornography.”

Imagine the difference in how that reads if you flip the order a bit.

"Patrick Wojahn, won on Thursday was arrested and charged with 56 counts of posession and distribution of child pornography, was a long standing public official who advocated..."

And would the post or any publication lead with the non story if the arrested had championed conservative causes?

Maybe he realized that he is a POS who doesn't deserve rights.

Pieces of 5hlt still deserve rights, even if they do deserve prison, you POS.

And he was read his rights and refused to hear the full Miranda. Probably because hes a practicing lawyer who knows them anyway. And probably because he knows in a case like this, they have a mountain of evidence against him and it's a done deal. Jsut get it over with.

Most practicing lawyers, especially in/around DC, don't know the Miranda rights by heart. I'm sure this holds for Wojahn who looks to have never practiced criminal law at any point.

No, he was elected to the College Park Council in 2007. Mayor since 2015.

Not that he’s gay. Other publications, while not explicitly saying he’s gay, note the name of his spouse. The Post doesn’t and maybe it’s because his spouse works in local journalism.

His poor spouse. Wojahn nuked his entire life from orbit. The fallout on family and friends is going to be awful. I hope the spouse has a good support network.

A neighbor of mine (also a government attorney, fwiw) was arrested on similar charges.

What disturbs me most is that he is (because he’s still a neighbor, with a monitoring device) a nice guy. Very hard to reconcile with what’s clearly under the surface.

He is obviously and decidedly not a “nice guy”. You really need to reevaluate how you classify people.

I don’t believe that his male spouse didn’t know.

This is a horrifying reflection on the people of College Park. They refused to even mention the terrifying reason for his arrest. In light of all the evidence so far, how does anyone believe he didn’t assault any children, considering his age?

Now that he’s been arrested, maybe any victims will find the strength to come forward to the police to report anything that happened to them.

It’s hard to say. There is certainly a possibility that his spouse is implicated and that he could be protecting him by waiving Miranda and confessing. But that’s pure speculation.

What, why?? Because he's male? And if it was a female spouse it would be different?? Piss off
