What grade? That will tell us everything. |
what month is your kid's birthday, OP?
I bet it's a redshirting question. This has happened before on DCUM. |
Either way I'm now invested! Please give an update afterwards. We're rooting for you! |
+1. Rooting for you OP! |
These calls happen for a few reasons:
- Child is a sibling but going to be rejected, AD is doing a courtesy call. - Child will be admitted but only if redshirted. - Child had a conditional acceptance that’s too hard to explain in the letter. - AD needs more information on something in the application (but it’s late for that). - AD wants to know if you will accept if admitted. - School really really wants kid and wants you to know how much they want the kid. |
Very helpful! |
+1 I got a call for a legacy rejection for K ahead of deadline. |
In my experience, if a non-sibling, they are calling to tell you that they are going to offer a spot as a redshirt. Basically, if you want to go you have to repeat a grade. |
We got this call 8 years ago. DS was accepted if we agreed to hold him back. We did and it all worked out. |
Are these always for K? |
We had a friend who was offered the same for 1st for her child. Have heard it happens in later years but don't know of any personally. |
My experience is with K. My son is an August 30th birthday, so right on the cusp age wise. The admissions officer called and asked to have him re-visit both the pre-k and k class so the teachers could observe. They also asked if they could call his preschool teacher to discuss their observations. He did the re-visit and ended up being recommended for kindergarten. High school age now, so it was quite a few years ago. |
Wow!! Was it literally two days before decisions? |
What happened OP? How did the call go? |
I am an admissions officer and I make calls like this all of the time. Usually I need to get more info about something. So perhaps your child is being seriously considered, but one thing is giving them pause and they want to get more info. |
