Hate the look of long hair on boys, urban boys with braided hair, stringy greasy looking hair, make me want to reach for the nearest pair of scissors.
Don't worry, I keep my eye roll inward (mostly)... |
My 2 yr old son doesn't have long hair but not buzzed short, older man haircut either. I prefer to keep it more like little boys did when I was a child back in the early 80s. |
My 3 year old has beautiful blond curls that are straying past his collar -- and FWIW, I don't always comb it, so the poster on the other thread can flame me too -- yes he looks like a ski bum or a surfer, but he is adorable, and I just can't bear to cut those curls yet. He'll get a normal hair cut before PK in August. |
There are boy twins in the neighborhood, about 6, that look utterly ridiculous (to me anyway) with long Prince Valiant hair. One has long blond hair below his shoulders. It's sad to watch other kids make fun of these boys. The mother has long white hair and the dad looks like he's in his 70's. Very strange acting bunch. |
The more parents focus on this the more it trickles down to your children who LEARN by example not to accept anyone who isn't cookie cutter. I can't believe this is up for debate. Reading DCUM, my kids and I have offended so many people or given them endless reasons for gossip. Again, this is children we are talking about. I feel sorry for people who dismiss someone based on appearance, you're missing out. |
I think redneck! But hey most of the people referenced about are. |
My little man is 8 months old. He was born with a lot of hair and now he has even more. I haven't cut any of it yet. I kinda want to see how it grows before I make a decsion. It actually seems like it may have curl to it these days. I do admit that I want the surfer boy hair for him, but it may not be the right texture. i think it is too early to tell. I actualy liek the long hair (not girl long, but noy long) and the buzz cuts - what I don't like is the BORING in between..... |
I know a mom who thinks her son's long hair is just the cutting edge for style. She is really on top of the most "in" clothes and shoes, purses, etc. But other children have mistaken her son for a girl many times. I guess the parents don't think it's a big deal but I wonder if the son does? He's 6. |
to me this is so white trash. i have three boys, we keep it short but not like they are entering the military |
Definitely not white trash:

I imagine it depends on what his friends are hearing from their parents. Left to their own devices, I can't imagine they care. |
You want long hair on your son, fine. But you can't then be offended when people ask how old SHE is.
I saw the most gorgeous little girl with beautiful blond curly hair cascading to her shoulders. She was dressed in brown pants with a maroon shirt and maroon clogs. I asked her mother how old she was, and her mother said "HE is three." And seemed offended. Well, lady, he's got hair like a girl, and you're doing him no favors with the outfit, either. If you're going to go with girl hair, dress him in blue with firetrucks or something, or you're going to get people assuming he's a she. |
no, no, a buzz cut is definitely not white trash |
On the buzz cut thing: my brother's son has a buzz cut almost all year long, because his hair is exactly like my brother's - thick, stiff, and full of cowlicks. So unless it is cut SHORT, it has to be about a foot long before it will stop standing straight up and looking like a charicature. So buzz cut it is. Guess he is a little "white trash" boy, what with his dad being the super-successful type, youngest at his large company to ever be in the senior management position he's now in, living in a nice house in a nice part of town, mom is a school teacher. Trashy! |
I agree with your point. But PP must have tapped into a real raw nerve. You must be a mere generation removed from true "white trash." |
