In terms of wealth & education attainment, DC surpasses Boston. With respect to GDP, DC-Alexandria-Arlington ranks #5 $541B; Boston-Cambridge-Newton ranks #8 ($464B). Median Household Income (25 most populated cities): D. C. proper ranks #4 at $90, 842. Boston is #6 at 76,298.
Education (degree attainment), again, D.C. ranks ahead of Boston, which ranks #6, while DC ranks #3, just below Ann Arbor and San Jose, respectively.

Depends on what you like- DC winters are much milder but Boston summers are so much less humid. Boston has wonderful suburban towns and many prefer being out in the burbs (In DC - at least on this forum, everyone should live in/close to DC -even if they don't work in DC Boston has much, much better beach access and if you ski, you can get to mountains.

I just cannot stand the damn mosquitoes anymore in the DMV during the summers. You cannot even enjoy the summers in the DMV because it is overrun now with Asian tiger mosquitoes. It is awful.

Why: Proximity to ocean and mountains, lovely small towns, neighborhood charm. There's just more character and a less transient population. DC's suburbia is a lot of beige condos and "planned communities" and chains.
