Young woman fights off rapist at gym

Anonymous
Is there a video that shows her fighting him off before she runs. It seems that’s all off camera. Plus the fact that she let him in.
Anonymous
Lots of news channels are showing the video. CNN, fox, inside edition etc.

Everything is captured on camera. Google it.

I don’t trust Black men. Or Hispanic men. Or White men. Or Asian men.

But, lesson learned is to be fit. Lift weights. Hit these guys on their balls. And run. I would have locked the man inside the gym.

+1.

I don't think it's victim-blaming to note that she let him in. She didn't just buzz him in - she went to the door from the other side of the gym and opened it for him. Her attacker (consciously or subconsciously) was relying on the social conditioning that makes us feel uncomfortable for not being "nice" and helping someone out by letting them in the door. It's worthwhile to think about that in relation to your safety.

That’s what I was driving at. She let him in because she didn’t want to appear rude (or perhaps racist).

He didn't even work out - he was just sitting there contemplating his attack. We need to be more aware.

He lives in the building. So it really doesn't matter that she buzzed him in.

people stop doing that!!! unless you know the person lives in your building do not let them in. alternatively develop a better radar for dangerous v not. (NOT based on race.) This dude was disheveled and wearing slides.

And here is the victim blamer.

Taking safety precautions in today's world is not victim blaming.

Why do you think she buzzed him in?

I saw her on the news this morning. She said she thought he was a resident who forgot his keys. It happens. She is very lucky.

She's not lucky, she is smart, quick thinking and strong.

We had some security issues in our dc office building and management told us not to hold the door/let in anyone we didn’t recognize.

While it’s awkward to let the door close behind me when I know someone is trailing a few steps behind, that’s what I do if I don’t recognize the person.

Sorry not sorry.

That was absolutely terrifying. I used to go to Anytime Fitness and something like this could have easily happened. I'm not sure I would have been strong enough to fight off a man. I bet he wasn't even a member at that gym.

I don't know why she buzzed him in though. He should have had his own key fob at a gym like that.

The video show her going over to the door and letting him in.

Women need to stop being nice. Nice gets you killed. If he lived in her complex then he can go back to his apartment to get his access card.

Now obviously women deserve to workout, walk, run and do a million other things without getting attacked, but that is not the world we live in.

This goes for dorm rooms, office buildings and any badges entry.

Yup. Same at my building. I have pulled the door closed in someone's face. It felt SO uncomfortable. But since they were supposed to be there/has access they used their key card to get in and it was no big deal.

She could have been raped but she managed to escape. Yes, hopefully she is changed. Hopefully all of us who watched it have been changed.

I rarely do anything alone already. I no predators are opportunists, always looking for someone to victimize. In the case of this young lady, she was armed, in a sense: she is strong, she felt no fear, she fought him and ran off asap. I don't know that she has to learn anything, except that she can, in fact, protect herself.

I’d rather die than rarely be alone.
