If your DC's secondary school appears to have a pipeline to a specific Top 10 college...

Crazy that there are these pipeline schools. I’ve asked this before but why is that not considered a hook? Everyone’s upset about other hooks but no one mentions this as being a problem/unfair.

This has to be UChicago, and I’m guessing I know the private. My DC’s school also has a “pipeline” to a top 10, and the school counselor said that school would be a safety for DC only IF DC applied ED. DC likes the school, it’s a great fit but DC likes another couple of schools a lot also, so chose not to apply to the pipeline school. We left the decision up to DC. It helps if your kid can see a range of schools where they would be happy.

ED 2 is very viable at UChicago. My child says everyone they know got in ED2.

I suppose I don’t consider it a hook because everyone at the school has it.

This is definitely UChicago. The only top 10 school with EA and ED2. They are looking to grow their endowment. DC had to make the same choice last year and decided to not do ED2. They are very yield focused.

You are a fu$$ing $hit. The universe of Freshman applicants isn’t made up of students only from this privileged school.

If it’s Chicago, it’s not really a hook. I’m the person that mentioned people get in ED at our school. The kids getting in are very well qualified academically. Always top of the class in the hardest classes but are not athletes, URMs, or VIPs. They just actually stand a chance there whereas they typically don’t at most ivies save Cornell.

But isn’t the fact that they stand a chance because of where they go to school a hook? Sorry, your logic/justification doesn’t make sense to me.

This is so not true. Most of the kids getting into Chicago from these elite private schools would absolutely not get into Chicago if they were at a public HS. I personally know several kids.

PP do you realize how stupid what you just said is?

What I’m saying didn’t make sense to you because you didn’t read what I was responding to. Click to see the hidden prior post and you’ll see what I bolded. That’s what I was responding to.

Ok here you go. I’ll quote the response so that system doesn’t hide it. What I was saying was the bolded isn’t true because the kids I know getting into Chicago from these elite private schools would never get in if they were at public school. Stats are not that strong.
