UMD EA Today?

Kids below that still got in, just not all of them. Almost no denials above that point. I think there were a few odd gpa/high score rejects maybe.

I know someone last year who had 3.5+ uwgpa, and 1400+ SAT who did not get in the fall year. There are no guarantees. That is what is worrisome.

I guess you aren’t the parent of a senior? Lol

Yes. My kid has a 4.0, excellent essays, etc and I don’t consider acceptance a sure thing.

Its a sure thing. Guaranteed.

Not the PP, but talk me off the ledge.

Is it really a sure thing? My kid in in a magnet with 4.0 unw gpa, high SAT score (does UMD even look at SAT scores now or is it optional?).

Is it really a guarantee? I confess I'm a worry wart, and I'm so nervous for my DC.

I wouldn’t say a sure thing but if they are in state and submitted high SAT scores and have rigorous courses to go along with the 4.0 unweighted and halfway decent ECs and essay - an outright rejection would be rare. At worst, I’ve heard of high weighted GPA, high submitted test scores kids, with ECs and good essay getting spring admissions, not getting their LEP, or not getting into honors/merit which would seem typical for those stats.

Thanks to all PPs. The wgpa is like 4.67 or something like that. I thought the essay was good, but obviously I'm biased. ECs are ok, not spectacular.

I'm worried about the "rare" exception, I guess, but that's what worry warts do, worry about the rare exceptions. LOL I over prepare for everything.

I'll be glad when this is all over. DC did apply to other schools, but even if they only get UMD, I'll be so relieved. I think I'm more worried than my DC is. LOL. Some of my worries are about finances, too.

PP here, I’ve been keeping track of UMD for a few years and the surprise rejection decisions I’ve seen tend to be either high stats students missing something (like high stat no ECs or bad essays or not a lot of rigor) or the next tier down of really strong, but not the top students that would have gotten into UMD a few years ago but now the average GPA/test score of admitted students from their school is higher than what they have making it a target or reach rather than safety like the poster that mentioned before 4.3 was likely now it’s 4.5 from their school. And understand that 4.3 student is likely mostly A, a few Bs, nothing lower than a B in honors and AP courses at a competitive high school. Meanwhile if you haven’t been watching the admission stats rise and are from the area, you might be thinking, oh in the 1990’s….

Do they recalculate GPA? Without the A-, my kid has a 4.0 or 3.99.

Thank you. That sounds fun.

Some people will complain for anything

There is a chance. Encourage him to apply.

This was my dd last year. She was not accepted. Good luck! And other dd at Towson and loves it.

depending on the major, yes.

This is not true- You are accepted or rejected from the school first. Then they admit to LEP (Limited Enrolled Programs) so your child can be accepted into UMD and not admitted into Comp Scie, Business and Engineering as a freshman.

Maybe UMD figured your students use them as a safety?

You DC will get in. Start checking at 4:30 today!! Likely closer to 4:45 - 5 and by 6:30 tonight it will all be out. I would be very shocked if you kid didn’t get in. UMD weights test scores a lot!!!

UMD does not care about yield or demonstrated interest. I have found that it is a tough admit from high performing maryland high schools.

It's so sad. My daughter does NOT want to get into UMD because she knows if she does I'll make her go there since its our cheapest option. BUT she also doesn't want to be rejected, because then she'll feel bad that she didn't get it.
