Salad bars are returning

I have been teaching for the county for 20 years. When the salad bar was introduced, the purchase of school lunches increased. Most children (and teachers) really enjoyed it. I think your kid is the outlier.

Nice anecdote. You have no actual data to support this. Nice try.

Also an fcps kid in the late 80s and it was always pizza on Fridays.

I don't think healthy eating -aka salad bar - was in fcps vocabulary.

+1 taco salad wasn’t healthy at all. I remember absolutely drenching my leaves (that’s all it was actually) with Ranch. Not a vegetable in sight!

All the teachers I know don’t want to eat from it because we’ve watched our students use it first and, let’s just say that even with all the proper training and precautions, it doesn’t seem exactly sanitary.

Oh man. And I was looking forward to it.

I don't think most of you have set foot in an FCPS cafeteria in the past 5-10 years. They still have pizza on Friday AND they have the salad bar. It's not an either/or situation. At my kids' school, the salad bar is part of the hot lunch. They go through and get veggies, then they get their hot lunch. No one is forced to do anything, the veggies are very popular, from what I've heard. My kids love the salad bar.

My kids school had a cafeteria person serving the kids.

What is your point? Would you rather they NOT have a salad bar that a lot of kids enjoy just because your special snowflake will only eat chicken nuggets and fries and will throw it out if they're touching each other?

I hate to see waste in the schools. And this is one example of where there will be a lot of waste.

Except, most unpleasant one, it hasn't historically been a waste. Note the posters who have talked about the lines. Believe it or not, the salad bar is popular. Why don't you go grouch on another thread?

My 6th grader was excited to hear it’s coming back! However, he has not heard anything from his school about it.

You don't know that. You're just making things up and doubling down even after several people told you our kids love the salad bar. Not every kid is like yours, a lot of them like veggies, a lot of us are raising our children differently.

My kids would like the salad bar but I understand that many kids that FCPS serves wouldn’t. You can’t see past your bubble?
