Redshirting August boy?

Would it be better to redshirt before he enters PreK or the PreK year?

I can have him do the 3s year at his current daycare and then move to private school or start attending private school in the 3s and then repeat the 3s or PreK4 if necessary.

I'd look for an interesting program that isn't too academic so he doesn't get too far ahead. Maybe something outdoors based on expeditionary? I wouldn't have him repeat the same thing two years in a row or repeat K.

Why would anyone hinder their child’s learning for what they are capable of? That is absolutely terrible advice.

It was non-issue. She was fine academically and now in 3rd she is doing fantastic (90-99th percentile on ERB), but she was socially immature. Even now that she is among the oldest in her class (though has never been the oldest), she is still on the you get side, but more middle of the pack.

In our well-known private, I have never seen a girl or a boy with an august birthday going on time. Plenty/all are redshirted

They are all socially immature and she should be doing fantastic since she is measured at a year behind what her grade should be.
She's not a year behind, as a late August birthday she's only a couple of weeks older than the official start of the grade. She should be on the more mature end of her class.

You said she is held back. And since she should be on the more mature end of her class, why isn’t she since you held her back to remedy that?

What?! You suggest stunting his growth and his abilities so he doesn’t “get ahead?” Unbelievable!!!!

+1. Redshirting or not, that was inappropriate suggestion.

Late august birthday child here. Did not redshirt and is doing great in middle school. One redshirted spring boy who has learning challenge but no others. Few summer birthdays like my child. The age thing narrows in and is a non issue anymore.

Private and he is a boy. I believe he is the youngest but I am not certain. One other boy may be younger.

I long term subbed and one of the youngest boys was an August birthday and was one of the top students grade wide. Age factor does not matter once they are in mid to upper elementary.

Actually my DD was born 5 days before cut off (not a couple of weeks) and out of 18 kids she is the 4th oldest… so what… 65-70th percentile? Giving that is is scoring 90-99th percentile she is definitely doing great!

You want a cookie? She should be scoring that if she is the 4th oldest. That’s nothing to brag about.

Np.
My child is the second youngest and scored 98% on SSAT scores to get into his private school.
Your child is one of the oldest, indicating that she is mediocre.

What is your problem? Why so bitter? Why do you care this much?
My guess is that you are super competitive and you want your non-redshirted summer kid to do better than anyone else…. How weird… No chance you would so bitter unless it was personal

So, she is near the top age wise. If she were near the bottom, then that would be a good score to talk about.

Definitely redshirt. We did it because our elementary school is so terrible and we wanted him to have another year of fun and high quality education.

Ironically, you’re the bitter one who got cannot handle being called out by your “brag” as not really being something to brag about. DP
