Perimenopause

I just read a great book a local woman wrote. Lots of good Perimenopause info: symptoms, hormone therapy etc.

The author is Jen Sweeney. I got it on Amazon after someone on DCUM recommended it.

For me the insomnia, very dry&itchy skin, fever blisters and mood swings kills me. My cycle lasts at the most 2 days(have been like this for past 10 years, I just turned 40)but the symptoms are brutal. Was diagnosed with PMDD and no medication helped.

I'm hoping I'm in the home stretch of perimenopause because when it started about five years ago I was beside myself trying to figure out what the heck was going on. Anxiety off the charts, insomnia, PMS bordering on PMDD, brain fog, memory trouble. I went to a couple different doctors convinced I was losing my mind.

I was started on meds and went to therapy to deal with the anxiety, which was rooted in real triggers but was disproportionate to circumstances.

There should be better education for middle age women and conversations so they know what to expect. Once I asked some friends my age and older the common stories came pouring out. We all had been going through it on our own. Such a shame.

Waist thickening, always hungry, bags under eyes came out suddenly, itchy, flooding. I look like a middle age woman and no makeup or clothing can hide it anymore.

Gaining weight. Harder to lose weight. Sad and overeating due to sadness. Its a cycle. Never had this issue before perimenopause.

How does brain fog manifest itself?

For me, it was difficulty remembering names, confusion with multi-tasking, difficulty focusing, my thinking felt slower. After three weeks of hormone replacement therapy, my brain fog has improved which I'm pleasantly surprised about because I didn't think HRT would help with that.

I started about 3 months ago. Life saving.

No side effects excellent results

If anyone needs a Dr Rachel Rubin amazing.

Oh. I love her. She's gotten really expensive and booked now because she was in the NYTimes. Happy for her. Sad for me.

Ugh. Let's see. Probably started with worsening PMS that developed into PMDD. Then I started skipping some cycles and would then have crazy heavy periods that hurt like crazy. I just skipped periods for three months and now for the last 7 days I've been spotting. Before that I actually thought I was peeing myself and went to the doctor where they were like--take some AZO and see if it's red. It was NOT red. So, I wasn't peeing myself, but it sure felt like I was. And I had no infections or anything. I guess that was just a precursor to all the spotting.

Bad sleep--but I haven't slept well since I had my kid a long time ago. So, it's hard to tell. But I rarely feel rested anymore when I wake up.

I was always fat, but it got worse, and I was hungry ALL THE TIME. So I went on a weight loss med and cut out carbs (for now), and that helps.

My sex drive seems to have dropped considerably over the last year or so. Orgasms are still nice, but I just can't find anyone exciting. Like if you asked me whether I'd want a good deli sandwich or sex with a really hot guy, I think I might choose the sandwich.

I considered going on BCP to help with some of this, especially the PMDD (although I haven't really had that in the last 3 months since I haven't gotten an actual period), but I have had bad experiences with hormonal birth control of all kinds in the past. Also have been on antidepressants for other things (I'm on a low dose of wellbutrin) and they have made me gain weight. So don't really want to go down that road.

I got a special gyn who specifically helps with menopause, and I'm going to see her next month and see what my options are. I really would like my sex drive to come back and to have some more normalcy with my periods. It would also be nice if I didn't want to murder people before I got my period. Before this last lapse, I would be kind of psychotic a 3rd of the month.

More intense periods and more attuned to discharge and emotions throughout the month. Worse cramps. Some midcycle spotting. Urinary frequency.

Help! The insomnia. Maybe 3 hrs of sleep per night since Sunday. Anxiety has ramped up.

I've been taking THC for quite a while but it has stopped working. Melatonin, too.

I take medication for depression and anxiety, even that doesn't help me sleep.

Any other suggestions? I don't see my doctor again until June. Although I could try to make an appointment and hope she isn't on holidays.

I had to wait several months months for a gynecologist appointment, too, and it was brutal. Ashwaganda and Estroven helped somewhat during the wait. Ashwaganda reduced my anxiety attacks. There are different Estroven formulas, and I found the blend with black cohosh and isoflavones in the orange box most helpful.

Do everything you can to get sleep. The insomnia made everything worse.

Wishing you comfort and strength!

Perimenopause is not real. Every single one of the symptoms described in this post can be traced back to nutrition, and decades of poor nutrition and lifestyle habits.

Please read the book, “Good Fat is Good for Women Menopause” by Dr. Elizabeth Bright. This is a game changer.

As a side note, “Toxic Superfoods” by Dr. Sally Norton is also a great read and would help any of the women suffering in this post.

HRT for menopause is yet another way the patriarch controls women. Please do not diminish your life believing that synthetic or pig hormones are your way out of an unhealthy lifestyle.

Gushing period. Crime scene levels. Long periods--as in sometimes 2 weeks long.
