Roasted broccoli. Pasta. Pesto sauce. Parmesan cheese. Toss together.
Everyone loves it. |
A 6yo making their own dinner is sad. Once in a while, fine. But if that’s a regular thing, that’s really sad. |
| We go to the salad bar and make our own salads then buy a baguette |
NP. The occasional weekend lunch is fine. Dinner, that’s sad. Dinner should be family time. Dinner should be parents taking care of kids. Once in a while, fine. Not regularly. That is sad. |
Each of these is a real dinner in my house. Not remotely phoning it in. Seriously, what do you consider a decent meal? |
I agree it is sad. It is great they can do it, but sad that a parent is not willing to create a family dinner. I despise cooking. Hate it but still manage to throw something togethor. |
OP here. Fresh but simple: marinated roast salmon, steamed spinach, rice Homemade chicken pot pie (weekend) Homemade chili, soup or stew with cornbread and a salad Eggplant Parmesan, salad, garlic bread Roast chicken, mashed potatoes, asparagus (weekend) Lots of things that would be considered “30 minute meals” or Pioneer Woman-level effort Basically, two fresh/homemade things and maybe one phone-it-in side like Rice a Roni or frozen rolls |
| Quesadillas are a 5 min staple. If I’m too tired for that, cereal or frozen waffles. Or snack plate- pepperoni, cheese, cut up veggies, cashews, hummus/chips. |
| Frozen pizza and carrot sticks. |
Im the pp that said a 6 year old making their own dinner is sad and that was my point too. I sit at the table and eat with my family every night. Even if it’s the quick and easy meal and even if nobody really talks to each other much. I feel like it’s minimal effort to show that you care and are there. Telling a six year old to figure it out is just sad. If it’s a once in a while thing like the migraine pp, fine, but if it’s a regular thing then 😔 |

Spaghetti with a jarred sauce. (Preferably a sauce that I made and canned or froze last summer, but sometimes a grocery store jar does it)
Hamburger patties - with our without bun, depending on what we have around - with sliced cucumbers and cherry tomatoes Tuna melts - I'm with you on that one!! |
🙄 are they handmade buns also? Lol |
DP, but don’t find it sad at all. I think we’d be in a better place as a society if more kids were taught to be capable, contributing humans. |
| I make big omelets, with up to six eggs. Grated cheese, halved cherry tomatoes, sliced ham pieces, etc. Then divide the finished product into portions. Five minutes, fluffy, and delicious. It takes some practice to build up to six eggs, though; get really good with three or four first. |
