I'm interested. He's pretty frank about the toll his addiction took on his body-not something you see too often with celebrities. He apparently had multiple GI surgeries, a colostomy bag for several months, etc. But I'm a Gen Xer and was a twentysomething when "Friends" originally aired. If I hadn't watched the show it probably wouldn't be something I'd want to read.

But definitely not cool re: his comments about Keanu Reeves.

Well, I don’t know what the deal is with him and Keanu.
But the drug/alcohol destruction in the film and music industry in the 80s was just awful. So many dead and so many who barely survived (Robert downy junior, Rob lowe, Matt perry). I’m sure drugs are still a problem in Hollywood but I don’t think it’s anything like what the young actors in the 80s experienced.

I saw him at the Starbucks in Malibu Country Mart a few years ago, and he looked so uncomfortable in his skin. It was sad to see. I hope as part of his recovery he finds some self-acceptance.

Agree.

His editor should have told him to cut Keanu out of it or to change it to himself. Unless they are the one who told him to add it for extra drama and publicity

Nah, there's another quote later in the book where he says the exact same thing about how Heath ledger is dead but Keanu Reeves is still alive. He has some sort of specific beef with Reeves, which seems super weird because I'm not aware of Reeves having reputation for out of control drug use. It makes sense, then, that he did not die of an overdose.

Moreover, everyone who's ever worked with Reeves has said he's just genuinely a good dude. He may not be the leading actor of his generation, but he's typically chosen roles that are good for his abilities and has a reputation for being great to his colleagues and crew. He's an extremely weird person to take shots at twice in one book.

I think it’s weird too. You can interpret it a couple ways, both unflattering. Is he saying Keanu was just as abusive with drugs and alcohol but someone managed to avoid death? Or is he saying why are these great talents gone and a no-talent like Reeves is still around? Both? Either way it’s an unnecessary shot. Keanu is pretty much well liked by everyone and still is considered an A-lister. His movies do well. This doesn’t make Perry look too good.

1- the episodes in friends with chandler’s parents, played by the incomparable kathleen turner and morgan fairchild, are fantastic

2- keanu reeves looks amazingly hot in that photo of him side by side with matthew perry

I would say that Keanu Reeves is an A lister and Matthew Perry is a B lister. One did major movies and the other just did a TV show and B movies.
