Please remember that many of the creative people involved in the original SATC have basically disowned AJLT and are not involved. Candace Bushnell, Darren Star, Patricia Field, the original writing team….they are not involved. I think this is why AJLT is so terrible. Plus, they have a much younger writing team. The magic is gone. |
Your post is what’s pretty cringe. |
Me too! and I loved making them back in the day and watching SATC with my friends lol |
This is OP and I thought of one more thing - none of them have manicures! There's a scene where they're all out at some fancy party (basically every episode) and their nails all look natural.
Miranda has a line about getting her nails done on Saturdays - but it does not look like today, where it's expected that women will have painted nails for any fancy occasion if not for every day. It really struck me because at the ancient age of 49 I have started getting my nails done, and I like how it looks - but also my lord it takes up a lot of time and money. It was refreshing to see them without manicures. |
Don’t knock cosmos - still my favorite drink! |
Miss the pre phone days too. |
Aidan was too good for Carrie. |
I don’t really get this. I was getting regular manicures back in those years. |
They just weren't really compatible. She treated him poorly but she did it because she just didn't love him. |
But that's the point! That's what a lot of us did in our 20s/30s and that's what we thought life would be like in NYC. I lived like that (to a certain extent) and am now happily married, with a mortgage and kids. That being said, I look back on my 20s and SATC so fondly. It was a fun carefree time and I know what a privilege that was to have. The original SATC was so good because everyone was relatable enough...you were a little charlotte, carrie, miranda and samantha and you knew people like this too. You saw yourself in all the girls and you saw all your dating exploits in their suitors. I disagree with the poster who said it was un Over time, the characters got too hyperbolic and it was just unrelatable. On Big, he was written to be THE EX. The one we think about often, but realize we overglamorized then and in hindsight know he was all wrong for us. I think the writers ended up liking Chris North too much and kept Big around longer than they should've. |
Aiden was too rustic for Carrie. But also too good for her- she’s very self absorbed. Big was good for her in the sense that for once, it wasn’t all about her. I like them together and think they make a good couple. |
They kept him around because, to your point, he’s the ex you never stop thinking about and who ruins subsequent relationships. And in a tv show, that ex will realize you’re one the and that’s the happy ending. Carrie never clicked with anyone on the show like she did with big. Although I did like Berger (ugh, I know what that says about me.) |
It’s not deep rooted insecurity. Carrie was attracted to Aiden primarily because of his stability. What did they actually have in common? |
Speak for yourself and use self control. |
They had nothing in common. She hated anything he liked and lied about herself like half a dozen times on their first date. |
