| Are you all dripping in diamonds at the Rockville Bonefish Grill, then? |
| Tell me you’re an amateur without telling me you’re an amateur. |
Maybe stay out in Vienna and wear it with your mommies + me group. DC is not tor you. |
| Where are u going? What’s the event? |
Maybe the difference is that you never lived in DC? I lived all over DC (sometimes in sketchy parts) from the ages of 21 - 36 when we had our first child and decided to move out to the suburbs so I've always been very comfortable going out there, but also learned to be hyper-aware of my surroundings. Not sure I still have those instincts, but I'm also rarely going somewhere that's not a pretty popular part of town nowadays. |
Same. I don't take real jewelry to out of town weddings though, I know too many people whose hotel rooms have been robbed. PP is right that the community does get targeted now. |
| I got mugged in NYC and they took my jewelry. So I don't wear my expensive jewelry if I am in crowds, Metro, walking late at night in DC or any city. |
| My Grandmother used to wear a 10 Carat emerald around DC when she would go out. At that size, most people didn’t even give it a second glance because it was so big they thought it was fake. That was back in the 80’s too. |
So who has it now? |
| Yes. Anything I have of significant value is insured. |
| I wear nice jewelry out to dinner, etc. However, I worked downtown for over a decade in a place that totally emptied out at night. If I knew I was working late (10 or 11 or later), I didn’t wear any diamond rings. I don’t care if someone steals my stuff, but I didn’t want the interaction with any sketchballs. That’s why I don’t understand people who wear fakes when they are worried about getting mugged. Wouldn’t you rather wear nothing flashy at all, and not get mugged??? |
Why on earth do you wear any jewelry to the beach? |
