Funny. I feel the same way. Wonder why it is. Ted Bundy was almost as much of a monster, but I have no problem watching stuff about him. The only other one I'm really not interested in that way is Manson. |
And American Horror Story |
|
I had to fast forward some sections
It seems he purposely did nothing with his life, threw away every opportunity and let his fetish take over his life Interesting portrayal of the gay community, is it really that easy to offer a person a laced drink. Only one person after so many kills was not interested in it |

I'm not immune to true crime fascination and as a morbid teen watched documentaries like Paradise Lost and My Brother's Keeper. I saw a viral tweet about Dahmer's portrayal of one of his victim's cousin's court appearance. The family didn't even know about the movie or her depiction in it.
indiewire.com/2022/09/jeffrey-dahmer-victims-families-slam-netflix-series-1234766373/ It seems exploitative, and makes me examine my viewing habits. How much do we really need? |
| What difference is there between this and movies shows about the Holocaust? Or movies like Wolf of Wall Street about a guy who inflicted severe financial harm on many people.? Or being entertained by every war movie ever made showing deaths of soldiers? The fact that this makes your skin crawl means acting is good. Many of us were too young to remember all.of the details and haven't gone out of our way to read up on Dahmer. |
What more do you need to know? He was a disgusting serial killer who preyed on victims for as long as he did because the police are racist. He finally met his well-deserved end in prison from a Black man who isn’t getting a fawning Netflix series made about him. You just find the trauma of families who are still alive and who lost family in a horrific way to be entertaining. |
Of course all serial killers engage in outrageous behavior, but I think the difference is Dahmer's is so bizarre it is hard to imagine one person came up with it. It seems more like a group of writers trying to one up each other for a gross horror movie. Also, unfortunately as a society we are more immune to females being victims. |
Once again, how are people entertained by Schindler's List? How are Call of Duty games billion dollar entertainment when you are glamorizing war and turning WWII into a game? Or all all of the movies about 9/11? There are many, many, many forms of entertainment based on terrible events in history. There is literally no difference in dramatization of this story versus every other video game or movie based on real life events. Hell, even Mike Tyson is now having his life dramatized on multiple platforms, and he committed sexual assault. |
| I don’t think I can watch it. I do watch some true crime and murder procedurals, but this one is too much for me. I’ve heard it’s well made, but the monstrosity is too great for me. Likely the cannibalism aspect. But also his scope. |
One more thing you should know is that one of the police officers who saw Dahmer chasing down a young victim who had escaped and then returned the boy to Dahmer who later killed and ate him, kept his job and became the head of the Milwaukee Police Union. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Balcerzak |
There is a huge difference. In the case of Schindler’s List, the main character is the hero, and the film doesn’t lovingly portray the Nazi murderers. Furthermore, the victims and hero are the main characters throughout, not the Nazis. Same with the movies about 9/11. Call of Duty is fictional, though it’s telling that you consider it to be equivalent to Dahmer as it shows how you think of his victims. It’s appalling that you can’t or won’t see the differences here. You get off on re-traumatizing victims. Just be honest with yourself. |
Call of Duty is not fictional. They’ve literally had games where you play the landing of Normandy. Your entertainment is literally playing war and killing people. There have been movies about Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy. At what part of the Dahmer show is he being glorified? Meanwhile, a sexual assaulter like Mike Tyson is constantly glorified by the dramas about his life. Are his victims still around? Just be honest with yourself - you have selective outrage. You probably buy COD games to entertain your kids while are outraged for some deranged reason about the Dahmer show even though it is a real historical event. The scariest part is that you’re basically advocating for censorship of media just because of your selective outrage. |
+1 Just horrific. Not sure I can continue. |
