I have not heard a single person complain about the increased emphasis on academics. I'm all for sports and don't mind recruiting, but if athletic recruits can't hack it academically, they shouldn't be there and the headmaster is absolutely right for keeping them out. |
I think it’s good that the headmaster supported the football team as much as he was. Was he that way with other sports? Parents shouldn’t be worried about what other students are paying? Worry about what you and your family has to pay. Nosey mf’s. If your statement about him bringing in kids who couldn’t do the work is accurate, that is not okay. Current Bullis US parent here. I am thrilled they are focusing on academics. Football only leads to brain injuries. |
100% the focus is being realigned positively. |
| What is baseball like at Bullis? |
| I know this is an old thread, but can someone share if sports are required in middle school, and if so, what are the options? Anything for a non-athletic/sporty kid? |
Current middle school parent. MS has sports/activities from 2:15-3:30 every day and it is part of their school day. Fall and spring are all sports. Winter had options of MS musical (including tech), art intensive, and 1 or 2 other activities in addition to sports. The sports are all listed on the website but include soccer, field hockey, volleyball, football, tennis, basketball, wrestling, strength and conditioning, swimming, lacrosse, baseball/softball, track and field, cross country, hockey, golf… I think added fencing this winter too. They encourage kids to try new sports and have options for those less into it. |
| Bumping this for 2024 feedback on the athletic landscape for HS. Track and XC are very strong, basketball also dominating. What about lacrosse? Baseball? Soccer? Football? Do you have to be Olympic/D1 level athlete to play at Bullis? Just curious to hear how the more balanced approach that PPs mentioned is playing out. |
| I don't understand the misinformation about Bullis Football. The team is 4-0 in IAC play and plays at Georgetown Prep this Saturday for the IAC championship. As for the men's basketball team, it was nationally ranked last season. |
|
Current landscape on sports for Bullis boys.
Basketball - varsity team nationally top 25 stocked with high level D1 recruits. JV team just okay and a more casual player can make team. Football. Team is good, but not as good as the top WCAC teams. A drop off from its height, but still a solid program. Track. Very strong. Best in the area. Lacrosse. Team will be very good this year, but after 26 class, recruiting hasn’t been as strong. Could be a drop-off in the future if recruiting doesn’t pick up. Soccer and baseball. Just okay. You don’t need to be a high level player to make teams, although they do have strong individual players in these teams. |
Thank you Pp! Very helpful |

This thread has so much nonsense.
The track team for both girls and boys is literally the best in the nation. No other team can compare. Basketball was ranked top 25 in the nation and will be strong again this year even with some graduation losses. Lacrosse - strong locally every year, occasionally competitive nationally Football - strong locally every year Baseball - awful Soccer - average |
| Ice hockey and volleyball have also improved in the last three years. |
| Is baseball awful in terms of coach/team/actual record? From what I’ve seen it looks like they had an overall losing record last year but in terms of league play, they were in the middle. Got blown out by Prep, but were 50-50 with Landon. |
That person was being too negative. Baseball is fine. They just aren’t a top team like some other sports. |
