A former Virginia police officer who was fired after breaching the US Capitol building on January 6, 2021, was sentenced by a federal judge Thursday to more than seven years in prison.

Thomas Robertson entered the Capitol with the first breach of rioters that day, prosecutors said, and marks the second rioter convicted by a jury to be sentenced. Guy Reffitt, the first riot defendant convicted by a jury, received the same sentence of 87 months behind bars -- the highest sentence in a January 6 case to date.
Washington, DC District Court Judge Christopher Cooper said Robertson's actions after the riot were the most "striking and concerning" part of the case before handing down his sentence.
"You think partisan politics is war. You continue to believe conspiracy theories," Cooper said to Robertson, adding: "I sincerely believe you would respond to a call of duty if called to do something like this again."
Robertson, a former sergeant of the Rocky Mount police in Virginia, wrote in a March 2021 text to a friend, "I can kill every agent that they send," assuring they would never see him "surrender to be a political prisoner."
Robertson is one of more than a dozen January 6 defendants so far to opt to take their case to trial instead of entering a plea agreement.

When will we see Trump and his high-profile organizers go to jail for January 6th insurrection?

HOLY CRAP. Judge out of control much? I hope they appeal.

To be fair, saying election denial is a conspiracy theory is pretty partisan given 90% of the GOP believe (or pretend to believe) the election was stolen.

I’ve heard that facts don’t care about their feelings.

I've heard that too. Even the phrase "f*cl your feelings."

Was the judge wrong? Is this guy repentant? Or still loony?

That was a VERY partisan statement to make and has no place in a courtroom. They need to appeal.

Which statement?

"You think partisan politics is war. You continue to believe conspiracy theories," Cooper said to Robertson, adding: "I sincerely believe you would respond to a call of duty if called to do something like this again."

Alito and Thomas wrote far more partisan comments in the recent Dobbs decision. This is mild compared to what has become standard fare from the ultra-conservative wing of the SCOTUS. If such partisan statements can come from the SCOTUS, then these types of comments are clearly now de rigeur and acceptable.

He ordered dozens of weapons and had explosives in his home months after 1/6. He went to trial instead of taking a plea. What do you think?

Very sad when republicans see condemning and punishing violence to be a partisan issue.

As if that insane poster above would ever consider logic, reason, or truth. We know that poster and know what they want. They will lie, steal, cheat, and murder to get what they want.

HOLY CRAP. Judge out of control much? I hope they appeal.

He had a gun on him at the Capitol, attacked police with a wooden stick, went back home where he had explosive stored, and destroyed his phone. Destroying his phone did not eliminate the evidence that he had sent text messages saying “I can kill every agent that they send for at least two weeks.” What sentence would you deem appropriate?

I can only imagine the horrible things this guy did to citizens in his town while he was a cop. You know he did some terrible things.

His sentence is not nearly long enough.

These are the crazy facists that Republicans have activated.

To be fair, saying election denial is a conspiracy theory is pretty partisan given 90% of the GOP believe (or pretend to believe) the election was stolen.

Identifying objective reality is not partisan. It’s not the judge’s fault that the majority of republicans believe in fairy tales.
