A former Virginia police officer who was fired after breaching the US Capitol building on January 6, 2021, was sentenced by a federal judge Thursday to more than seven years in prison.

Thomas Robertson entered the Capitol with the first breach of rioters that day, prosecutors said, and marks the second rioter convicted by a jury to be sentenced. Guy Reffitt, the first riot defendant convicted by a jury, received the same sentence of 87 months behind bars -- the highest sentence in a January 6 case to date.
Washington, DC District Court Judge Christopher Cooper said Robertson's actions after the riot were the most "striking and concerning" part of the case before handing down his sentence.
"You think partisan politics is war. You continue to believe conspiracy theories," Cooper said to Robertson, adding: "I sincerely believe you would respond to a call of duty if called to do something like this again."
Robertson, a former sergeant of the Rocky Mount police in Virginia, wrote in a March 2021 text to a friend, "I can kill every agent that they send," assuring they would never see him "surrender to be a political prisoner."
Robertson is one of more than a dozen January 6 defendants so far to opt to take their case to trial instead of entering a plea agreement.

When will we see Trump and his high-profile organizers go to jail for January 6th insurrection?

HOLY CRAP. Judge out of control much? I hope they appeal.

Was the judge wrong? Is this guy repentant? Or still loony?

That was a VERY partisan statement to make and has no place in a courtroom. They need to appeal.

Which statement?

I don’t think you understand what a partisan statement is.

He is right and you are wrong.

This is the guy who out on bail for 1-6-21 and while fired from the P.D., mail ordered 29 more guns and had them shipped to a local gun shop. They canceled his bail as it looked like he was planning further violence. Who financed the guns? He had no job.

7 years is very low for invading the Capitol and treason.

He had a $750K injury settlement when he worked at Dyncorp. And with zero money coming in because he had been fired from the police department and was likely to lose his military pension, chose to spend it that way.

Ignorant statements like this aren’t very compelling.

That cop is an America-hating piece of shit and traitor. He really should be shot dead by firing squad for his treason.

+1 traitors should definitely get more prison time.

This is not "alternate reality". No judge, court has indicated that there was election fraud. We are governed by laws, not conspiracy theories. The judge was not wrong. Only traitors of course would think the judge is partisan.

I guess all traitors would think the courts and judges are part of the deep state, though.

7 years was not long enough.

The punishment for treason used to be death, in the old days, during the "originalist" Constitution. I think that's a bit harsh and we've evolved since then, so 10 years for his original crime and another 10 years for ordering all the weapons to try to do it again.
