| And principals have enough to deal with without the histrionics of over privileged parents whining about taking a free test that takes all of a few minutes to administer to determine if their kids has a easily communicable disease… |
I'm supportive of PP's refusal to test, but I'm also sympathetic to this argument (although from the way teachers complain about principals, maybe the principals are baddies too?). Anyway, PP should probably also forward their email to Paul Kihn and Ferebee and the mayor, as well. |
Agreed! What a jerk you are PP with the letter. You clearly communicate your priviledge, you play dumb that the principal has any power over this, and then you express your 'gratitude' in your closing. You're now 'that' parent and word will spread about you. UGH, how dare you waste everyone's time on this?! |
Eh. My kid, anyway, HATES getting his nose swabbed. I admit that I kind of have an issue with making him do that asymptomatically at this point. We got him vaccinated, that should be enough for the school system. I'm not going to bug the principal about it, but I cannot object to other parents letting it be known. I'm halfway thinking of faking the negative but I don't like giving my kid an example of lying. |
idk it seems like the principals are the people to write to about issues with a school not following public guidance. |
Just fake it. It’s incredibly easy to produce a negative test result. |
Do you understand how schools work? They make zero decisions and have zero control over this type of stuff. This isn’t some charter school - central office determines all policies and procedures regarding covid. Try to keep up |

Why do we continue to put the burden on our children? Adults are not asked to take tests like the District is demanding our children do - because it would do no good . So why do we make our children do it?
This testing is theatrics, means nothing, and comes at the expense of the kids. There is another thread on here about a child that has COVID and will be fine, but is terrified about the diagnosis. Our society's actions have given this child so much anxiety that she is worried about dying, when two years on that is not a realistic outcome for her. Making parents and staff feel better when there's no science behind is is not worth the anxiety we've given our kids. But that's what these theatrics do. Why is it theatrics? Ask why we do it coming back from summer. There is no greater risk of contracting COVID the weekend before school starts than any other weekend. Should we test every Monday? Should we test Tuesday, every day? The logic behind this testing is no different than testing every day. But we know that testing every day is absurd. And as for making Staff more comfortable? Why should we do that at the expense of kids? Staff are adults who are smart and should be treated like it. They are smart enough to know that these theatrics (and testing that can be easily faked as others have pointed out) do not make them safer. Yet we continue to deny our children normalcy (or more normalcy than they had two years ago) for no good reason. Just to avoid the accusation - I am no COVID denier and believed in all the things we were asked - masks, social distancing, and vaccination. That all was necessary. This testing is not necessary now. |
THIS. I hope that somehow you are made to suffer for this entitled behavior without damaging your children’s education too badly. But it seems like you’re willing to just withdraw them from school over a 15 second swab so I guess you don’t actually GAF about that anyway. Do you think DCPS cares whether you threaten to pull your kids over this? Using your kids as pawns… you suck. |
the swab is pretty invasive. I swab when DS is sick but it doesn’t seem right to do it when he’s not. He’s vaccinated and I don’t send him to school sick. Seems perfectly adequate to me. I’ll probably fake the test by barely sticking in the swab. |
And this is why we had PK'ers trying to 30 minutes to spit into a little tube to fill it up instead of a 5 second nose swab.
|
I guess you need to define safe... You can certainly catch Covid and it can develop into long Covid being vaccinated. We need to get away from the 2021 paradigm that vaccination is some sort of hail Mary pass that exempts you from all further Covid woes, because that is not fact. Approach this informed and intelligently pls. |
My HS did the spit test version all year and honestly it’s pretty disgusting. You stand around spitting next to other people doing the same thing. I won’t be doing that again. Lots of kids refused to do it. |
Histrionics is exactly what is on display here and the letter is OTT. The pandemic clearly has cost some parents their class, compassion, and graciousness. Shocked by this behavior because DC doesn’t have a trailer park. |
NP but I think most locations where kids live in trailer parks would never require them to test for Covid to return to school. Because it’s absolute nonsense. |
