Why do we continue to put the burden on our children? Adults are not asked to take tests like the District is demanding our children do - because it would do no good . So why do we make our children do it? This testing is theatrics, means nothing, and comes at the expense of the kids. There is another thread on here about a child that has COVID and will be fine, but is terrified about the diagnosis. Our society's actions have given this child so much anxiety that she is worried about dying, when two years on that is not a realistic outcome for her. Making parents and staff feel better when there's no science behind is is not worth the anxiety we've given our kids. But that's what these theatrics do. Why is it theatrics? Ask why we do it coming back from summer. There is no greater risk of contracting COVID the weekend before school starts than any other weekend. Should we test every Monday? Should we test Tuesday, every day? The logic behind this testing is no different than testing every day. But we know that testing every day is absurd. And as for making Staff more comfortable? Why should we do that at the expense of kids? Staff are adults who are smart and should be treated like it. They are smart enough to know that these theatrics (and testing that can be easily faked as others have pointed out) do not make them safer. Yet we continue to deny our children normalcy (or more normalcy than they had two years ago) for no good reason. Just to avoid the accusation - I am no COVID denier and believed in all the things we were asked - masks, social distancing, and vaccination. That all was necessary. This testing is not necessary now.
