I swear, some of you are a perfect example of the origin of the word "hysteria." Look it up.

The bill says it would be legal to use deadly force against a pregnant woman if she tries to get an abortion.

no, it says use of deadly force to prevent the abortion. i dont see a case where you kill the pregnant woman to prevent the abortion and save the fetus. if you kill the pregnant woman, you kill the fetus too so you kill two "persons" under this bill. the use of deadly force is directed to who does the abortion or assist. this bil is outrageous enough as written that we do not need to twist it.

So someone could shoot my taxi driver, shoot my clinic escort, shoot the intake nurse, shoot the OB/gyn, and shoot me in the leg, if they thought I was getting an abortion.

some crazy f*er could shoot first, then ask later. "Oops, my bad, I thought they were going to murder that zygot, but it looks like they were just gonna do an ultrasound. OOps."

I mean.. what could go wrong.

Once again, I am sooo glad we did not choose to move to NC or TX. We did consider it 10 years ago.

I had to look, as I thought maybe I posted this re: nc and tx.

If this nonsense passes, the two NC schools I wanted to have my daughter check out for college are off the table

That’s an unexpectedly liberal take from NC

In all seriousness, do they have any actual lawyers in NC, ot ????

That was my read of it as well.

+1. That obviously wasn’t the intention. But, that’s literally what it says.

This is why you think through the logical consequences of your laws, rather than using the. To play chicken with women's lives.

Can the pregnant person kill the person who impregnated her? It's only fair.

+1. my daughter is a rising senior. places where people can buy guns and conceal carry without permit, and places that would force a woman to undergo a medical emergency thay put her life in danger to be able to receive medical care are out of the question. we are actually going to apply outside of the US too (EU and Canada) in addition to some in the US.

It’s such a wide reaching and stupid law.

BuT ThAt’S nOt The LaW MeAn. Yeah, we’ll, that’s what it SAYS

that would absolutely be great. Republicans have been riding the abortion train for decades, getting votes "to save the unborn" knowing that with Roe any law they would pass would be thrown out, and in the meantime votes laws to screw their own voters. now finally the dog caught the car and let's see how they like it. let the crazies have full control. outlaw IVF and force raped yound teenagers to carry the pregnancy to term and finally the suburban soccer moms (and their husbands) will have enough and will vote out the crazies. Republicans (at least the non totally crazy ones) know it, look at De Santis, all the rethoric about the unborn child and blah blah but then the law in Florida allows abortion up to 15 weeks. Florida is one of the states with the highest per capita abortion rate in the nation and he knows that outlawing abortion would be a kiss of death on election day.

jsteele wrote:Republicans want to kill women but Democrats want people to be able to choose their pronouns. So, really, both sides.

What's happening is that Republicans get attention and support by being more extreme than the others. By throwing out Roe v Wade, the Court created a situation in which the mainstream of the Republican Party now supports the position previously only held by fanatics (i.e. total or near total prohibition on abortion). So, to out-extreme them, the crazies have to do things like this bill. "All you want to do is make it illegal for a woman to get an abortion? RINO! We'll make it legal to kill them." Expect to see even crazier things.

This post seemed to come out of left field; I see what thread the right wingers are trying to push. Lots of “minorities” never voting Democratic “again.”

Meanwhile Republicans are making laws that could conceivably lead to legalized femicide.

This bill is abhorrent, but it’s also dead. It was proposed in February 2021 and has been languishing in committee with no decision for nearly a year. Only five legislators have signed onto it and it’s sponsor isn’t running for re-election. It’s not going anywhere.

But it is premeditation. It wasn't just a theory that was discussed it was put into paper and signed on by five other people. They attempted to legitimize this concept. That in and of itself is scary

In addition to the 2 NC schools, I have schools in VA (home state), PA (also iffy), NJ, NY, RI and MA on daughter’s list. I have a couple wild cards in NH, IL and NV on the list. I don’t think her grades will be good enough for application to Cal State schools (not even looking at UCs oos). There are also 2 schools of interest in Toronto right now.

So in a pregnancy with multiples, if you reduce, you could potentially save the rest, if you do not, you could loose all

Not the college thread, but also look at U of British Columbia. Strong academics and Vancouver would be a great place to live. U said 2 in Toronto. So, also look at McGill in Quebec
