| Give her a gift basket of lume deodorant lotion. I love that stuff and it works great. |
I have read all the articles where some expert will tell us that we do not need daily showers, that bathing daily is so bad for our skin, etc. That we should not interfere w/our bodies natural oils & such. However, especially when it is hot… I think all adults should shower on a daily basis. It doesn’t have to be a long, drawn out process. It can be a short process. Starting off every day w/a clean body can set the pace for a good day. |
OP, your funky a** found the thread. Guess no need for you tell her now. |
You stink. |
That's kind of nasty, why not shower once a day? |
Right? I assume you use the restroom, PP. Unless you use a bidet every time, you need to shower. Yeg. |
| Give her some Lume. Tell her an extra bottle came in your own order. Leave it and don’t say much. The week after, ask her if she liked it. |

Let this be a cautionary tale for all those who use air freshener and odor neutralizers like unscented Febrreeze etc: it kills your sense of smell. It does not "trap" bad odors.
OP, she can't smell herself. She is blissfully ignorant, as all Febreeze users are. |

I have an adult child with ADHD and executive function challenges who struggles with this. I do see it as the role of a loving friend to talk about this. Here's the straight forward advice I have given my child.
1. Shower every night. Use a wash cloth to scrub in the shower and towel dry completely. (Sometimes the towels will smell like BO -- wash them with Oxiclean) 2. Use antibacterial soap. I like Dial brand. 3. Use "Clinical Strength" Antiperspirant. I like Secret brand. The directions say to use it at night. I strongly suggest morning and night. 4. Wear clean clothes. Even if you think the clothes you wore yesterday are not dirty, they won't help with your body order if they aren't freshly washed. |
+1 I have PTSD and my trauma is shower-related. Most people don't know. It takes a lot for me to shower 3-4 times a week. In bad months, I do it once a week, but I try to hit it every other day as a routine. I had a nightmare last night, and even though my clothes were clean today, I could smell myself a bit later. I sprayed on some perfume. I just couldn't poasibly bathe thia mornjng. Ugh. |
| +1 on the mental health element. I have major depressive disorder + executive functioning issues and I cannot make myself shower every day. I just can't. When I'm in really bad shape I'll go 3-4 days. I try...it's hard to explain, though. It feels really arduous when I'm OK, but insurmountable and utterly pointless when I'm not. |
| If she brings up not showering daily again, add that it’s a family rule in your household that everyone showers daily out of respect for one another living in close quarters and that most people don’t recognize when they have body odor. |
You dont know how to wipe, PP? |
| Does she clean herself properly after pooping? That might be the issue. Go to her house and see if she has dirty undies. Then you'll know what the cause is |

While I advocate for a daily shower - there have been times when I am in a deep depression where taking a shower seems pointless.
When I am so miserable that even a dirty body does not matter. Just the thought of getting out of bed to turn the faucet on in the shower seems like such an insurmountable task. |
