If you could be more attractive or more intelligent, but not both, which would you choose?

DCUM: where everyone’s smart and average-looking

I see a fair amount of discussion around here about what we want in a significant other, but I wonder what we want in ourselves. I happen to think I'm plenty smart but just kind of average looks wise and, so, the temptation would be to want to be better looking. But, I think it's fairly universal in our society to over-estimate one's own intelligence and to under-estimate one's own appearance. Also, as a culture, I think we tend to glorify appearance more directly than we glorify intelligence.

I am smart enough so would appreciate being more attractive, I guess.

I’m happy with both right now. Tho I guess over the years I’d want more agelessness and muscle tone maintained. And. It get dementia.

I’m fine with both but I’d live to live a month nit being dyslexic… but only a month, because I suspect it’s part of my superpowers I don’t want to give up.

I'd love to have better focus and more energy. I already sleep and eat well and still there aren't enough hours in the day. Probably because I spend top many of them on dcum!!!

I've always been considered attractive and intelligent but they haven't gotten me very far. I'd choose better mental health.

I am just smart enough to make a living and keep myself out of danger, I would love to be super handsome.

More attractive. As a middle aged woman I've found looks are much more important, sadly.

Neither. I choose confident.

Intelligent. Less fleeting.

This. I was an 8. Now I’m a 4 at best. Seriously have not she’d well at all. Generally I’d choose intelligence over looks though. It’s just that I have plenty of the former and none of the latter.

But you can fix "ugly" with a huge makeover, maybe even plastic surgery. Harder to fix "stupid".

Agree, which is why I said I would generally choose intelligence over beauty. But I am very smart already. And also pretty ugly. A lot of it is weight and I bust my ass to lose 5-10 pounds and then gain it back. What I really need is willpower to eat less.

Yes, so it depends on how "smart" and successful you are.

If you have $$$, you can get plastic surgery, hire a personal trainer, etc.. If you are reasonably intelligent, but don't have a lot of $$, but if you were "smarter" you could make more.

If you are more attractive, that might mean you can find a rich man, but IMO, I'd rather make the money myself, and then buy myself a boy toy in my old age

Smarter doesn’t mean you can get more money! Some of the dumbest people have high salaries.

Sure, but generally, if you are very smart, you can make a lot of money. It's not the only way, but it's one way.

Having money seems like it would make it very possible to lose weight and keep it off but look at billionaire Oprah, what about that?

I'm old and married so I'm not sure what being more attractive would do for me at this point. If I was smarter I could figure out how to get out of a job that drains the life out of me and potentially make more money. I could figure out a lot of things that are currently eluding me. I'm surprising myself by picking intelligence. 20 years ago I would have picked more attractive, hands down.

More attractive, for sure. Pretty people are treated like royalty. Money is fine to a point, but after you have your needs and some wants met, the rest is irrelevant. Having the opposite sex fawn over you would be amazing! Endless sex with hot people? Sign me up!
