Did APS decide on the start/end times for elementary schools?

Because they get home early. My kids have a lot of activities and getting home at 405 and needing to leave the house by 430 has been hard. They barely get time to get a snack . When they got home at 3pm they could relax, do HW, eat something and then get ready to go.

Ugh. My condolences. DD could have handled that just fine but DS sleeps so late, 7:50 would be so hard.

7:50 is hard? Wait till your kids are in middle school. Good grief!

That is exactly what time middle school starts in APS, so what is your point?

Yeah it would be hard. I do have a kid in middle school. If she started at 7:50 that would be hard but not as hard. I’d rather have fewer years of hard start times. I don’t understand where your feelings are coming from here tbh.

our school is being moved to a 7:50 start time and I'm happy about it. I understand not everyone is. The reasons that I am happy about it: 1) we are early risers anyway, so aligns more with my kids' "functional hours" 2) we'll get out earlier and while I work full time/ they'll be in extended day, the days when I have more flexibility in my schedule, we can enjoy the afternoon together 3) right now because of work schedules, we had to enroll in morning care and drop off around 8-8:15 anyway. I won't have to enroll in morning care next year.

I'm coming at this from a pretty privileged position, so I want to acknowledge that I know not everyone has the same hours as us and the early wake up will be very hard for some families and for kids who rely on the bus to our option school, there are many families who will have to get to the bus stop at ungodly hours. I also understand for people without as flexible of schedules that they won't really benefit from the earlier dismissal.

It seems like reactions are pretty mixed across the folks at our school who I've spoken to, pretty much boiling down to whether or not their family wakes up early already or not. But the consistent annoyance int hat our school was switched to a later start time this year (after having an earlier start in past years) under what now appears to be a false pretense. So people changed their schedules to accommodate the change, and now we're having to change things back.
