You all gotta be lying with your 8am and 8:30am bedtime for middle schoolers. Otherwise you are a bunch of overbearing helicopters.

What does your child do between 9pm and 10pm?

Middle schoolers RARELY go to bed at 9pm. The amount of messages that comes through my daughters devices (plugged downstairs) from 9pm to midnight is unbelievable.

This exactly. My kid has to plug his phone in at 9 in the kitchen. So. Many. Messages. When he gets up in the morning.

I notice this too. I have heard a few parents say…Joey can have his phone in his room. He powers it down at 10. Uh huh.

Terrible parenting.

I would say anyone who makes their kid go to bed in the morning either has an unconventional schedule or is a helicopter.

Omg. Awful parenting. Read up on kids/tweens abs sleep.

Vastly different weekend sleep times creates a jet lag effect in the kid. Once in awhile is find, but it is bad for the kid/body to create drastically different bed times on the weekend.

I am not the PP, but I have a weird middle schooler who will put himself to bed early when his schedule allows. Not all kids are the same.

My middle schooler goes to bed early at 8 and is a natural morning riser. She gets up on her own early and cheerfully. Based on the times she receives messages on their phone, sometimes as late as 2am, I would have to guess a lot of kids do not power off their phone at bedtime and do not get nearly the amount they need for mental health.

He reads before bed; no electronics.

8:15 on school nights (has to get up at 6:40am!) and 9pm otherwise.

I laugh at this. No way middle schoolers are going to sleep at 8pm. Are your kids just hermits and have no activities or events in the evening? Are you all SAHM?

It is still light outside, kids playing/biking, and your middle schoolers are going to bed?!?! Gotta be trolls.

My 12yr old has activities 3x a week in the evenings after dinner. This works for us as he gets his homework done before. Then home, shower, hang out a bit, and then reading. Probably close to 10pm and he is up at 7am. I mean that is 9 hours. He doesn’t need 11 hours of sleep. It works for us. I like our evenings together.
