Ours goes to bed at 10. Is this just too late? My gut is that a lot of her outbursts are fatigue-induced.
'course it could be puberty too. Kinda in line with the "falling apart" thread - we are over scheduled for sure. |
| Mine goes to bed at 9 and some nights is asleep instantly and some nights reads. But usually goes to sleep. Ours is in middle school though and has to get up very early for school. He's up by 615/630. |
| 9:30 and then can read but sometimes goes right to sleep |
| 9:00 |
|
In bed at 9:00. Goes to sleep around 9:45-10-ish.
Doesn't need to get out of bed until 8:15 though. |
| Before 9pm. Wakes up before 6am, like her father. I've trained those two to step like cats and talk softly, because my son and I are late risers and we want to get every minute of sleep we can in the morning before school and work drags us out of bed! |
| 9pm, stop reading at 9:30. Asleep before 10. |
| 9-10 depending on the night. A few nights a week she gets home later from her activities and needs time for hw etc. I try to have her and younger sibs upstairs by 8:30/8:45 most nights. |
| One at 9 who gets up at 6-6:30. One at 10:30 who is pried out of bed at 7. |
| Read in bed at 8:30-45, try to turn lights out by 9:15 but that's when she's ready for deep conversations for whatever reason so it usually ends up being 9:30. Wakes up at 7 for school. |
| We aim for 9, but often he isn't settled until 930. He's the youngest of 3, so there is a lot of activity and late night practices/dinners going on in our house. It is sometimes like sleeping in a train station! |

At that age our kids went to bed at 9pm.
What does your child do between 9pm and 10pm? |
|
My 12yr old is a 7th grader. She has a travel sport practice twice a week that doesn't end until 8pm so we do - no electronics after 9pm and usually in bed by 9:30pm and falls asleep between then and 10pm. Her alarm is 7am.
So that is 9 hour of sleep, but she honestly probably needs 10 hours. If she gets a morning to sleep in on a day off or weekend, sometimes it is until 11am. |
Middle schoolers RARELY go to bed at 9pm. The amount of messages that comes through my daughters devices (plugged downstairs) from 9pm to midnight is unbelievable. |

Around 8:45. Sometimes she reads for a bit, sometimes she wants to go straight to sleep. I don't enforce a lights out time, but she usually turns them off by 9 or just after.
She has always been an early to bed, early to rise kid who needs a lot of sleep though. She's up at 6 am on weekends, and even when she stays up later she still wakes up by 6 or 6:30 so I keep with the early bedtime for now. Next year is middle school though, and likely activities/sports that run later so her bedtime will probably push back. Luckily our middle school start time is later than elementary so she can sleep a little longer (if I can get her to.) |
