This exactly. My kid has to plug his phone in at 9 in the kitchen. So. Many. Messages. When he gets up in the morning. |

Mine are 10 and 12. 10 year old has always needed more sleep than the 12 year old. Both need to be totally ready for bed and in their rooms by 830. 10 year old is allowed to read or draw in bed until 9. 12 year old can do whatever (but no electronics) until 9 and then can read or draw in bed until 930.
Add 30 mins to those times on Friday and Saturday nights. |
Agree. Our kids have to leave them (and all electronic devices) plugged in downstairs in the kitchen. My 8th grader's phone is lighting up until midnight (and sometimes beyond) on school nights. IT's insane! I'm guessing the parents don't know their kids are up. The bus comes at 7:05am. |

My oldest child went to be at 9 pm all through MS.
My youngest, almost a decade later, goes to bed at 10 pm. I wish we could go back to the earlier time but now there are all these old teens in the house being loud and horsing around til late. Grrrrr |
Same here. Up at 7. |
Your 12yr old middle schooler is in bed by 8:30pm? That seems so early. We have elementary school functions like concerts, science fair, etc.. that go beyond 8:30pm and my middle schooler has soccer from 6:30-8:30pm. They don't have to be up until 7:30am though. |
No, she doesn't have to be in bed until 9. Lights out by 9:30. She just has to be ready for bed and in her room at 8:30, mainly because my 10 year would lose his mind if she got to stay out in the living room with us while he had to go to bed. |
| 10 yo twins. Showers at 9. Lights out at 10. Early bird is asleep within minutes and is up between 6-7am. Night owl takes 20-60 minutes to fall asleep and is often woken up by early bird brother, but if left to his own devices will be up by 7:30-7:45. |
| Upstairs at 9. That usually means she's in bed ready for sleep around 9:30 |
| They haven’t had a bedtime since they were about 6, they go to sleep when they’re tired. |
| 10:15/10:30 |
| 11 yo goes to bed between 9:30 and 10 on weeknights and wakes up at 7. Weekends are a different story but she also sleeps late. She’s usually up to midnight. |
Op here. Chatting with friends or watching tv. Lights out by 10, she's usually asleep by 10:15. She doesn't have a phone and is in middle school. She wakes up at 7. Her schedule is like this 3x a week: 3:30 - home, large snack 4:00 - homework or play outside 5:00 - instrument practice 5:45 - leave for sport practice 7:30 - return from sport, dinner 8:00 - homework or reading if none 9:00 - shower, zone out I know screens aren't great before bed but it also feels like she needs relaxation. |
| 6th grader. Most nights we shoot for 8pm bed with some reading time. Sport/scout nights can be later. During the sport season they had one practice night that put them in bed closer to 10 after shower, and the next night it’d be an 8pm lights out. |
| 12 year old 7th grade boy. Usually 10:30 pm lights out, in bed by 10 pm (can read for half an hour). Does travel ball so often isn't even home until 9. Happily, doesn't need to get up until 8am for 9 am middle school start. |
