Ew. |
Must be something about the way I make my wishes known (which is calmly and authoritatively but no nonsense) but they have always followed my directions In this regard. About half the time they just gate-check the bag. |
And then everyone started clapping! |
Are you failing to disclose that the bag you’re asking to have gate checked belongs to someone else? That’s the only way this is remotely plausible. |
| Because I am in an early boarding group and because of the times when someone thought they were supposed to be seated in my seat and tried to get me to move. Just don't like dealing with the latter. |
They can’t just hate check a random bag with no tags! Are you saying in the midst of boarding they track down a passenger who used the overhead bins as allowed and have them fill out a tag? What are the other boarding passengers doing during this? |
+1 and were moved to tears by his quiet yet authoritative strength! |

Was this Southwest ?
If so, then you'd know there's a bit of a free-for-all element involved. Yes, you board by group A, B, C, for a more organized chaos experience, but it still leaves people wanting to board as soon as they can w/n in your group and therefore stand in line super early. |

For me it’s because I’m fat and have anxiety. I want to be buckled, settled, and squished up against my window seat so I don’t have to struggle with my luggage in front of everyone, squeeze past people who are disgusted by me for taking up space, and make my seat mates get up to let me into my seat. I’ve had panic attacks during the process so now I take a Xanax and pre-board with the people that have kids.

I think that's what it is. |
| I usually get a window seat, so I like to board early so that I don't have to ask people already seated to get up. Sounds like a no-brainer to me. |
| Am I the only one who likes gate check? If I'm flying an airline that charges for checked luggage, I take my bag to the gate and often try to get it checked there (for free) instead. Then I don't have to wrestle it into the overhead bin, and I get the little petty thrill of thwarting the airline's grubby cash grab. |
I'll be clear as well - if I get in the plane and put my big(ger) bag before yours and you can't fit yours and then you try and move mine elsewhere, we're going to have problems. And no, you won't be able to get away with it unless the FA does it. |
This has been gone for years. Now you have an exact boarding position (ie: B12, B13, etc.) - standing early gets you nowhere. Why did you post with really old info? |
