Can someone detail the job description for a full-time housekeeper in a home with 3 people?

I can't imagine there's enough to do to keep her busy 8 hours a day.

Not in my neighborhood (NW DC). $20 to $25 is standard for full time.

How messy does your house get given the 3 of you are out of the house all day? And how many groceries do you need for 3 of you that you can't manage it as a weekend errand?

Go away. I’m a SAHM to older kids, and I’m basically a full time cleaner.

There is definitely enough to do in a bigger home. Add in laundry, grocery shopping, cooking, errands, and probably daily vacuuming (my DH is very clean and vacuums daily). With full time the housekeeper will also be able to take a lunch break.

We had a full time housekeeper growing up who was kept busy all day with two adults and two kids in a 6500 sq ft home.

Lots of people just have higher standards than you, PP. I don’t mean to be snarky but my mother was a true old fashioned housewife and stayed busy all day. Our house was spotless and fresh, homemade meals were made daily. She washed our kitchen floor every single day and we never used a towel twice.

I wish my house was like that!

but some of what you're describing is really busy work. no one's kitchen floor needs to be washed every day. it's super wasteful to use a towel only one time. Your mom was filling up her activities to fill the time she had available.

+1 Reminds me of how the staff are kept busy on Downton Abbey polishing silver and ironing napkins.

If you are living in your house, cook, eat, use bathroom, sleep - you at least have a very basic level of daily level of cleanup needed. Then there are things like, oh I don't know - clean the damn stairwell to the basement because windy days fills it up with dry leaves and trash from God knows where!!

No, that’s your standard of clean. Others have higher standards, PP.

-1. Real silver needs to be polished frequently and they didn’t have permapress napkins.

Why is it so hard for you both to understand that some people have higher standards of cleanliness than you do?

It doesn’t matter what you think, PP. Using the same towel twice grosses my husband out. There is no right or wrong, just personal preferences for cleanliness. And with two toddlers and two dogs and meals made from scratch, our kitchen floor does need to be washed daily.

+1. I bet the two PPs don’t bathe their kids daily either.

I can live with used towels and dusty baseboards. I couldn't live with someone outside my family moving about my house all day long five days a week. Even if I had unlimited money.

You have to really not clean for a long time to get dusty baseboards.
