That’s 52k a year plus healthcare and vacations, PTO, and holidays. I can’t imagine how that is considered low! |
You’re ridiculous. |
+ 52,000! |
This is one of the dumbest posts I have ever seen here. |
I have to agree. I think it’s our resident troll. $52,000 a year plus benefits is more than most teachers make. And a cleaning and cooking job for just three people is pretty sweet with or without a 12 yr old home. |
DP. It doesn’t really matter what we all think. The proof will be in whether OP can find a fully-time housekeeper and part-time housekeeper for $25/hour. |
And around here teachers are practically paid poverty wages. That’s not exactly a helpful comparison point. |
I’m sure she can, that is what we pay our housekeeper. |
We pay our housekeeper 25/hour but many I interviewed had previously been paid 30-40 and wouldn’t have taken the job at 25. Also, housekeepers typically make more than nannies.
The real observation to make here is that teachers are very poorly paid. |
Teachers benefits are better - very good healthcare, 2 months off in summer, pension. |
heck, i would take the job for 40 - 50 per hour! i may even hire out the major cleaning! ![]() |
$25 an hour for a full time housekeeper is on the high side. A full time (plus benefits) hourly wage can’t be compared with a part time hourly wage (like a person who cleans your house once a week). Full time with benefits is a more desirable position. OP could actually start a little lower. |
How much supervision do you expect the housekeeper to provide? Just make sure your daughter arrives home after school and doesn’t leave again? It would they be expected to make sure she starts her homework, does chores, isn’t using the internet inappropriately, etc.? And what if your child is home sick? Do they have to monitor screen time, dole out headache medicine, check temperatures? Also, what will happen if your child is home from school on a day that the housekeeper was supposed to go grocery shopping? Do they leave your daughter unattended at home or do they not go to the grocery store, even if it means they can’t make dinner for that evening and you have nothing for breakfast the next morning? |
+1. Our full-time housekeeper started at $20 an hour three years ago and is now at $24. She is guaranteed 40 hours a week with benefits. |
Does your housekeeper also provide childcare? |
