Anti-maskers demand service in Silver Spring restaurant

There was no violence in this incident.

Also, it puts a little hole in the narrative that anti-maskers are always white redneck Trump supporters.

Good for the lady for standing up. I don’t disagree with a think she said, but I do feel bad for the employees.

So what? Don't like it, eat at home.

I do because I don’t want to get covid. But I want you to know you’re wearing mask mandates everywhere when you engage in mask theater. No wonder there are detractors- you’re not being reasonable

+1. I don’t know why we allow dining in right now. And I don’t know why anyone concerned about the pandemic would partake in it

I also don’t eat in restaurants right now. But if the County is going to allow indoor dining, requiring masks is a joke.

Public health policies should make sense. MoCo’s mask mandate is ridiculous.

How can you say “good for those people for standing up but i feel bad for the employees”!?

The only thing these people are doing are making things difficult for the employees. You don’t protest a rule you don’t like by harassing employees who are subject to the rule

100%. You people need to get out of your little bubble. Millions upon millions of Americans and others worldwide are living mask free just fine. It is nothing but political mask theater at this point. I don't agree with what these people did, as if it is the rule, then you should comply, but the issue is why it is the rule. Cloth masks are pretty much useless. We are told if you are vaxed your chances of ending up in the hospital are extremely low, and it is always your option to continue wearing the mask if you are so unhealthy and/or so afraid. The areas of the country that have not and still do not have mask mandates have similar and in many cases better infection and death rates per capita as the areas with strict mask mandates.

I'm not in a bubble. I spend a lot of time in places where no one wears masks for anything. That's fine. Those places can choose the rules that work for them, that's democracy. When I'm in Montgomery County I follow the rules, and I don't go yelling at random restaurant employees. There's zero excuse for that.

Pretty much exactly as I stated. The people in the bubble seem absolutely aghast at the thought of people walking around, shopping and going to school without masks. It is happening probably in probably more areas than not these days and is not cause for alarm, as other posters on this thread have demonstrated.

Np the mask free are also in a bubble. They are free to go to their maskless bubble The end.

You can wear your mask for infinity and beyond if you like, but others should be able to choose, especially since the whole argument here is that having a partial mask policy is pretty much worthless. The end.

So is pretty much all the TSA crap we do at the airport and you don't see anyone engaging in a scream fest there. People pulling this crap of screaming at minimum wage service workers instead of just doing the correct and polite thing are colossal jerks.

Next time the employees need to simply stop engaging with these attention-seeking idiots. Just go about their business and only engage with those who are masked. If they stop giving an audience to them, they will leave. And if these anti-maskers are so upset, let them go complain to the health department and law makers.

I say call the police as soon as they refuse to mask and then ignore them.

You have a strange definition of “just fine.” There were 443,000 new infections yesterday and 2,600 new deaths. Yesterday alone.

Perhaps instead of masks we should lock down for real?

There have been no better outcomes per capita in death rates in areas with strict lockdowns and mask policies compared to those without. Areas with high vaccinated rates/versus low and deaths, yes, there is a good argument to be had, but the rest of it is nothing more than a feel good, meaningless, visual reminder for everyone to be afraid and think the gov is doing something useful to combat COVID. Do you really think locking down some stores but keeping some open was accomplishing anything? It just concentrated everyone into the few stores that were open. Get your vaccine. Live your life. Mask if it makes you feel better, but your cloth mask we find out 2 years later is pretty much useless, so be sure to get your N95 and wear it properly.

Correct

It's funny how you don't deviate from your script no matter what people say. I split my time between MoCo and Eastern NC, where I grew up. There's zero masking there. I don't wear a mask there, because it seems silly. I'm plainly not aghast. Yet, I don't decide that the rules don't apply to me or yell at restaurant workers here, because I'm not a POS.

And this right here is the entire point. Don't like mask mandates - go to the county and petition to get them removed. Or refuse to go to places that have them. But don't be a POS.

Agreed.

And only some places enforce this in MoCo anyway. I’ve been in some restaurants where nobody cares an ounce if you’re masked.

If people are taking their masks off to eat, then it’s ridiculous to make an issue of it when they are not eating.

NP.. perhaps, but what happened to private businesses can do what they want, ie, "We have the right to refuse service" as long as it's not refusal to serve to a protected class - race. Unmasked is not a protected class.

That's the American, local control way.. right?

The woman is African American and was anti-semitic. She was being aggressive. She should be charged with a hate crime.

The police do NOT want to get involved in this nonsense. The lady was not doing anything illegal.

We have had people call the police on our business for employees not being masked.

The police clearly didn’t want to be involved in that nonsense.

She is racist and antisemitic and being aggressive. It wasn't about the mask but her threatening and insulting the employee. If she were a different race, people would be in an uproar about the racism. This was a hate crime/attack. She deliberately went to the restaurant looking to provoke and post on social media for attention. She and the man she were with consider themselves "activist" and were here for an anti-masking rally. She purposely targeted this restaurant. Its not a know restaurant and a small business in an out of the way area.
