Probably Ivymount.

Wrong

Probably Ivymount.

If true (and how would you know?) Ivymount is great but it can’t take every kid. They wouldn’t take my kid even though the MCPS placement office thought it was the best fit.

My heart goes out to this child’s family, especially his mother. I have 100% been in her shoes. Filed the Bullying and Harassment Complaint form and bullying only got worse. School told the bullies to not talk to my son so the bullies then made a point to let him know snitches get stitches.

Half way through high school I paid $26,000 for Junior and $26,000 for Senior year so he would be safe. It was tight and ate at most of the savings we had for college - but I was afraid he wouldn’t survive high school if he didn’t leave our neighborhood school.

Cyber bullying, however, still existed by students at his old school and MCPS would do nothing even with the screen shots because my son was no longer an MCPS student. Screenshots telling him to kill himself were some of the messages sent.

My son learned to block the bullies from social media accounts and filed reports against some students with social media platforms. My son was accepted at his new school and excelled academically once he was out of the toxicity that was MCPS. He earned academic scholarships that helped make up the lack of college funds.

I wished her son would have had the same opportunity to thrive. The Board - the entire Board - should do a gut check and ask themselves why they didn’t do more to stop the bullying. Why don’t they ever do what is needed for children who need protection in their schools. The Board all too often follows MCPS coattails and doesn’t do their own investigation including talking with parents and students. MCPS has had a terrible two weeks for student safety. The Board has let things get this bad that a child has died.

+1 if you want to make yourself feel better, start caring about special needs kids. Start caring about kids who don't do well in a school with 2000 others. Because some times those kids do so not well , they don't even survive

No you don't. You don't stand with them at all.

MCPS has a virtual academy but you needed to request that way back in the spring to get in.

Then maybe it should have been requested because this isn't making sense. The mother is accusing MCPS of killing her child but...he went missing on Jan. 7th. He was not found murdered (in a residential neighborhood) until Jan. 25th. In the same county and same area he's from - so he wasn't kidnapped or abducted across the country or into the woods somewhere.

So where's he been for the past 3 weeks? Obviously alive somewhere. Hanging with the wrong crowd?

God you're stupid. He was probably autistic and God know what they did to him or why he wasn't found but he may have been tied to a tree for all you know. Look at him. He looks like a sweet baby. The headline said he wad bullied. Dont you DARE try to blame him or his mother.

How hard is it for people to comprehend that he went missing because he was murdered? Jesus.

I know! Horrible. I want to hug that woman so badly.

There’s no independent review of ANY appeal to the Board of Education. MCPS is given legal guidance from the General Council’s Office (and any expensive lawyer they decide to contract with - most of the contracts are billed at $500 per hour). Then the Board of Education is advised by the same legal team as MCPS. There’s no sets of eyes to review if MCPS is making the right decision. The Board of Education may ask questions of MCPS staff, but the questions are asked in close session - even closed for the student and parents of the students.

The Board of Education just rubber stamps the poor and unjust MCPS decisions. No one stops to think if MCPS is denying bullying exists just so they don’t have to address that they have a bullying problem in a school.

Dr. McKnight is driving the train wreck that is MCPS but the Board of Education are willing passengers who don’t care enough to stop the train wreck. One student was shot in the past week and another (who was missing since early January) was found murdered. If that is not a reason to have an Emergency Board meeting, I don’t know what is. MCPS is in complete crisis - and they can’t blame COVID.

I hope a great lawyer steps forward to help the mother sue the pants off MCPS and the Board of Ed. Her son needed help. Now he is dead.

Three serious safety problems for all three Area Superintendents

Wheaton High School - loaded gun found in a student’s backpack last Friday. Area Associate Superintendent is Mrs. Morris.

Magruder High School shooting - Area Associate Superintendent Dr. Dyson

Northwest High School - a student murdered - Area Associate Superintendent Mr. Koutsos

Dr. McKnight is the only person these people answer to in MCPS. Obviously, they need to re-examine the lack of implementation of the MCPS Bullying, Harassment and Intimidation policy since bullying and threats are similarities between Magruder and Northwest cases.

Or maybe it’s just Montgomery County falling apart.

Agreed. I’ve lived in this county for 15 years and have watched this county decline in so many ways. Our County leadership is a disaster.

Well you missed the 70’s /80’s so no it has not hind “down hill”.

One correction--the area associate superintendents don't report directly to Dr. McKnight. They are under Ruschelle Reuben, Chief of Teaching, Learning and Schools.

I have a kid with special needs. I don't need people telling me to care.

I want to send the mother a sympathy card but need some kind of address. Anyone can obtain the school address.
