I cannot agree with this more.

Not saying we should try but MCPS can’t save them all. At some point the parents have to be realistic. If the mom didn’t have the resources to fix what ever and the kid didn’t have a better constitution I would think the mom has some of the responsibility in all of this. Just saying

You are truly disgusting. This young man was not an animal and he deserved to be able to go to school without being murdered.

They should be personally looking at every COSA provided they filed one even.

Teen boys, especially black/AA teen boys, are more at risk of victimization in school than out. You can’t guarantee safety, but you must use the tools available to at least try. Separating kids during the school day could have calmed down whatever was going on.

Of course. That is the BOE position. Are you surprised? They see children as disposable and could care less when one dies.

Yes, and the board of education has nothing better to do than look at every COSA application!

The Board of Ed should be overseeing how MCPS is run. And yes, any COSA request that involves a child safety/bullying should be independently reviewed by the Board.

They don't get paid that much.

This is tragic but blaming the board for this is a stretch even for the cranks on this board.

the buck has to stop somewhere, making the BOE (Which is a curriculum and logistics shop) the scape goat seems short sighted to me. If you build a house out of hay and have a child who likes to play with matches, it is weak to blame the fire department when it burns down.

For this particular case, the Board doesn’t have the time to re-examine the bullying and request by the mother to make improvements for the school system? Keeping students safe should be their ultimate responsibility. MCPS failed this child. To not re-examine the record will mean it will happen again to another child.

I feel bad for the kid. Nevertheless, your assertion is far from clear looking at the actual facts, but if it helps you to cope with this by placing blame I guess...

This sounds like the message I got from our middle school principal. She's a highly-regarded high school principal now.

It used to amaze me that people in this area actually thought like this, but they do seem to. Moco had a liberal candy-coated she'll, but what's underneath is this rotten version of social darwinism.

It's a problem
